Superb III my findings.

Featured Replies

What I have found in the ten miles so far.

The drivers seat width is 52cm against my cars 49cm (not including the seat controls on the side. The front seat piece just behind your kness is 41.5cm against mine at 36.5cm. I feels wider and slightly more comfortable though It is perhaps a bit early to tell that right side thigh did not feel as if it would be a problem.

The tick over noise outside was louder than I thought (but no worse than my car L&K) it might be but supports what some writers have found. Inside is I believe quieter than mine. The car only has 551 miles on it so far so is very tight especially with the DSG box learning about the main driver and now me!

I will take some photo's but will ask for help as I am unable to upload them onto the site.

If there are any question could people please leave them on this thread as I will have to give the car back tomorrow.

I wonder is it that the 190bhp is louder than the 150?  I've heard that on a few reviews.  How is the damping on the suspension?  I suppose its difficult to judge on a brand new car but do you think its a smoother, more cossetted ride overall?

what spec are you testing?

What engine are you testing?

Its been confirmed that there isn't a 240v/12v/USB points in the rear (back of the front passenger armrest) for UK spec, but is there anything? 12V on its own maybe or USB?

If you want to send them to me then I will upload them again for you.

I'd like to know this too. I'm really hoping for a USB point that is accessible for rear seat passengers.

I will have a look in the morning.

I've given a more detailed response in this thread UK Launch, what do you want to know?

In summary...

Yes, there is a 12 volt socket at the rear of the centre console.

No, there is no USB socket at the rear of the centre console..

Update.

1. Sort of trying to get used to ACC (auto cruise control) but personally I prefer "just" ordinary CC as I do not like that you can undertake if the car in front of you moves out of your lane. In just cruise I found it nicer to use than my present CC.

2. Noticed that the fuel filter top is now flush and not recessed so that water cannot collect there.

3. Memory seat control are further back than before and it might be just me but once I had set the seats I had to hold the button to move the seat where as mine it is just one push and it moves the whole way. This is with the engine running or not and a quick look in the manual did not shed any light on how or if it could.

4. When my pictures are uploaded they will show the battery (68AH, 680A which I thought would be bigger because of stop start) and most parts of the car inside and out.

5. The front ashtray space goes back quite a long way but a nice touch is the soft one touch closeure, not opening though.

6. When driving it feels tighter not just because it is new but I feel that where my Superb II was a step up from my Superb I in braking, going around corners etc that the Superb III is equally an improvement in road maners/handling over the Superb II, I knopw that people would assume that it is an improvement but it gives much more confidence on the road.

7. Coming into work this morning I did notice that it was noisier on some road surfaces than my S II but quieter on others. It has Pirelli tyres 235/45/18's on.

8. As has been noted there are a lot more soft touch materials.

So far I must admit I have been quite impressed with it.

I will try to think of other things to comment/notice before I return it this afternoon.

What engine have you been testing?

190 DSG in a SE L Ex.

Is it fitted with standard suspension, or with DCC (and if the latter, what modes have you been using) ?

190 DSG in a SE L Ex.

Thank you.

If you have time to look:

Is the bonnet release still on the passenger side or driver side?

Are the storage areas in each of the doors lined with any material or are they just solid plastic?

Is there still a storage flap under the lighting controls by the driver's knees?

Is there still a footrest next to the clutch pedal?

thanks!

I have been in a couple of lower spec models and the answer to questions 2,3 and 4 is yes even in those versions so assume that is the case in an SE L.  Can't remember about the bonnet release.  The softer, felted materials on the door bins are a nice touch

Is that battery standard or gel? Many cars equipped with S&S come with a gel battery, supposed to last longer than a standard one. Not sure about that is true or not, because my fahter's car battery has died with only 30 months. Gel, 240 euros. And I completely agree with you about 68AH is too little for such a big car, full of electronic gadgets.

About the tyre noise, I would bet Pirelli and 18" are the cause. Probably with Dunlop and/or 17" there will be less noise.

Normal suspension.

I thought that perhaps the S III was a bit noisier on start up but not now as when I went to start mine back up my S II was noisier.

I will put something together over the next couple of days as I have over the last 24hrs driven 170 plus miles instead of my usual 50.

I must give a big thank you to the staff at Capitol, Newport for allowing me to have this drive in their car. If anyone who is wanting to have a look at the car they have several estates and one hatchback all of which are 190 SE L Ex's.

Update.

If it like the Octavia, I think one push on the button is enough when the key aint in the ignition. If its in, I habe to hold the button.

I had the engine running and not running, key in and out and I always had to hold the button.

According to the manual, short press only works with door open and ignition off.

That Sounds right, I always push the button after Ive opened the door if someone else has been using the car.

I can only compare it against my S II, L&K (that I have had from new some 3 1/2 years ago) where one push given the correct door/engine scenario (no key due to KESSY) and the seats went to their memory positions, where as I could not get that in the S III. It could be that you do have to hold the button and count to two I do not know and as I don't have the car it will have to wait for another day.
