Faults after 1 week

Featured Replies

On day 5 of having the vrs tdi and got a few faults. Still running in, so they may bed in. Time will tell.

Reverse gear is a dog (manual)

Clutch bites really low down. Only car I keep stalling in 30 years of driving.

Smells like the engine is on fire after a short thrash

Engine cut out at low speed. Still asking myself if I stalled it, don't think I did. See if it does it again. Came up with start car manually.

The smell you could be smelling could be a result of the DPF, lots of thread on the forum explaining it, you could get the clutch changed maybe or just get used to it. Engine cutting out doesn't sound good, keep an eye on these problems and go to the dealer.

Sounds like the clutch biting low down will also be what's causing reverse gear to be difficult to engage, where does the clutch pedal rest in relation to the brake pedal?

Just a thought, but are you sure it wasn't the stop-start that caused the engine to "Stall"? If you were not at a complete stop then unlikely it was

If you stall the car it will automaitcally restart as soon as you put the clutch pedal to the floor.

It didn't restart. It asked me to manually restart it. Ill keep an eye on it.

I notice the stop start cuts the engine out while still moving. Our other car didn't do it until its was at stand still...as they should. I pushed clutch down doing 3 or mph and engine stop/start activated. Power steering lost etc. Dangerous really.

Clutch sits fine, just bites really low

Are you sure it's the stop/start activating when you do the clutch at speed? I have a Passat so not sure if the Octavia has the function but enabling coasting means that when you lift off the accelerator the revs drop to idle which can feel a bit like stalling if you don't realise what it's doing.

Stop-start shouldn't cut the engine if you've got the clutch pedal pressed in, regardless of whether you're moving slightly or not, and in gear or not. It should only be when the clutch is not being pressed at all.

Ask your dealer to check the clutch, maybe it was fitted incorrectly in the first place. Could explain any problems with reverse too. What is/isn't reverse gear doing by the way?

As said the smell could be the DPF. Also don't forget all the plastics, sealants etc in the engine are new, so will likely smell a bit when they get hot.

There's definitely something wrong with your car, my stop/start only stops the engine when the car has come to a complete standstill, with the clutch up and in neutral.

Drove it this morning and drives as it should. Asked wife is she finds reverse hard to get in at times and said yes. She agrees clutch bites low down. Its her car and says unless it gets bad, shes leaving it alone. Ones they start messing it, it will get worse.

I have to agree.

Let it run it first. More or less problems will happen

Well mate I had issues with my clutch last week and thought it was just 'bedding in' until a master cylinder issue meant that I had no clutch fluid and gears wouldn't engage after only doing 200 miles. Had to have the car recovered from my drive but could easily have happened on the motorway or somewhere I lot more dangerous.

My advise is to take it to the dealer.

Evening. I've had a VRS for about 3 weeks from brand new and I've noticed that it is very easy to stall. My previous Superb seemed to have torque even at 1000 rpm but the Octy seems more sluggish until you get the revs up a bit. It almost seems to be slightly higher geared for the road speed. I have put it down to the engine having been tweaked to lower the emissions

For what it's worth I have a DSG and I find the stop start sometimes kicks in upon hitting the brakes slowly and once the car is only barely moving, but none the less moving.

I think  you should take it in with a list of complaints as soon as possible.

Had similar gearchange and clutch bites problems with a non Skoda vehicle a few years ago and just needed the Clutch fluid replaced.

+1 for taking it back to the dealer who should be able to scan and pull-up any logged faults.

Stop/Start should not cut the engine when moving; as you have found, you will loss power steering and also brake servo.

I am not sure if it is just DSG variants but I am able to modulate the brake pedal so that Stop/Start does not kick-in i.e. lightly pressing the brake pedal to hold the car stationary will not trigger Stop/Start, if I press the brake pedal harder/further then Stop/Start will trigger.

On day 3 of ownership MY16 2.0 tdi manual I seem to be experiencing very similar issues.

Car seems to stall at low speed even with clutch ?engaged. Frankly I can't work out if the clutch behaviour is low / high or what???

I've been driving for 25+ years doing over 25,000 miles a year for the past 3 without stalling but I've ?stalled this car 20+ times in the past 3 days including 5 times where I have to manually restart the car. I've never owned a diesel before and initially put it down to this but reading this thread I'm not to sure. I can't workout where the clutch actually engages, as soon as I touch the clutch the maxidot gear inidicator shows no gear but there appears to be a low biting point from engine noise but no movement ?is this due to hill hold.

The car has stalled with the clutch at least partially depressed and moving, in general the car chugs in first or reverse gear in an agricultural way.

I have just tried disabling the stop start and suddenly it seems to be a different car so much happier at low speeds. Is this normal behaviour for this engine or has there been some software "tweak" for the MY16 desiels which is causing this??
