Audio formats for Bolero

Featured Replies

Hi! I am currently speccing an Octavia with Bolero and Canton. I have followed some of the threads regarding the audio sources for the Bolero (MIB I or II). I understand that sadly FLAC files are not supported. As an audiophile who was happy with his CD collection (yes, it takes up space in the car but offers good quality), I am left wondering which of the audio formats mentioned in the brochure ACTUALLY work. Is it just FLAC or are there other misprints? I would for instance be happy with WAV, though it needs a lot more space. As for mp3, are bitrates of 320 accepted?

From what I understand no lossless audio format is supported, however 320kbps MP3 is fully supported.

The MIB2 Bolero manual says flac, ogg, aac, mp4, m4a, mp3, wav and wma. I've not tested it yet buy I've not seen any evidence that any of them don't work.

MIB2 units do apparently play FLAC files..sure thats been covered on here somewhere. Probably to in part make up for the lack of CD player on the lesser versions.

All my CDs are ripped in WAV lossless format and, unless there's an undisclosed translation going on when copying to the SD card, they all play as normal on my basic Bolero unit (car delivered11/14).

My Bolero (MIB1) plays .mp3 and .wma even when using vbr that goes up to 355kbps (the manual says that only up to 320 is supported).

This may not be much use to you because when you buy a new octavia now it will be with the MIB2, and I can't tell if it's the same.Though I would be surprised if they make the new one less advanced.

IIRC most of my collection is all 320 .mp3s

I tried an .ogg file that someone sent me...it works (he sent me x2 .ogg files, a Full & 320 version of same file...the Full did sound a little better).

I don't have any .flac files but if someone wants to email me one to try, I can test it. (Message me with your email details and I can reply with mine.)

Btw I have a Bolero system with Canton.
