Detachable Tow Bar

Featured Replies

Morning all

I have a 2015 Octavia Elegance Hatch which ive had for 6 months now -its my 5/6th Octavia so im a convert !

Question I have is -who do you guys recommend to fit a detachable tow bar to use with my trailer and what sort of prices are we looking at ?

Also im concerned once the tow bar is wired in will the parking sensors still work ok -i don't probably expect them to work correctly when towing from past experiences.

Thanks

Lots, lots, of posts already on here.

Yes, sensors will still work, but not when anything plugged in to the socket. Standard kit is by Westfalia - my local dealer uses an indy to fit. They come with all VAG specific rear beams, etc. Around £500 all in, but prices will vary.

DIY is possible, the electricals being the more complicated part of the whole job.

Quite a lot about this in recent threads

Are a few, just search for towbar in the Mk3 forum and there is a lot there.

FWIW  use dedicated electrics (pref skoda oem as it is not moon-money) and get the coding done properly then things like bulb-out and reversing sensors will work (or not work) as they should.

The OEM Skoda detachable bar fits in a cutout in the spare wheel insert which is handy

I didn't realise this fitted in there, will have to check out later.

The sensors a the last of your worries, if the coding isn't done properly, you won't get Towing/Trailer Stability Control. No, not a scobby doo eaxctly what it does but, it does work real well, touch the brakes and my DSG is downshifting, Eco is disabled to stop coasting when you lift off the throttle but, I'm sure it does other stuff too.

I've towed a lot more than I probably should have and didn't have a single moment of "Oh Whats that", very controlled WELL WORTH THE MONEY

That's worth knowing. Even if mine will only ever see a bike carrier on it, I'll see if it works under those circs.

I've read somewhere that the car applies braking force to the wheels as necessary to counter-act the swaying of an attached trailer.
