Skoda Fabia VRS 2007 Performance upgrades

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I don't know much about cars and upgrades, but I've had my Fabia VRS for a few years now and all I've had done is a stage one remap. I'm now looking at making some more modifications to it but i really don't know where to start. Ideally i want to walk into a garage and just say what can you do to it, how much and when will it be done by. But i have no idea what garage to take it to and if they would be able to do that.

So what I'm looking for ideally off here is people to link me parts to buy of which i can then take to a garage to get fitted.

Im looking for:

New Exhaust System

Suspension - Coil-overs

Brakes

Any ways to improve the engine horse power

I have the money i just need to ideas!

Cheers people! Hope you get back to me!

There's a plethora of threads.

You'll only increase power now with a bigger turbo, exhaust will do nothing.

Maybe a fmic to give you sustained power.

Best coilovers you can afford, for me trying about 4 now ap's are best value in my opinion.

Fit brakes calipers and discs from audi tt /octavia - cheapest way to upgrade.

It's matter of how much you want to spend...

Good fmic setup 500,brakes 400/500 ish, coilovers 400

At a guess: £400 coilovers plus £160 fitting. Brakes £250 for 312 refurbed setup with discs and pads plus £120 fitting. If then going for power- £500 for a recon hybrid turbo plus XXX fitting. FMIC £470 ish plus £160 fitting (guess!). Then £250 for a remap. Then realise you current clutch/flywheel may die soon after unless uprated already. Then cry at how much this has all cost!

So, About £2300. Or fit some of it yourself to get it below 2k.

Do the handling first, pointless adding more power to these without being able to put it down. They struggle with a mild remap when it's damp to put the power down cleanly.

Bushes all round, spring/shock kit or coil-overs, rear anti-roll bar and decent tyres! Don't forget the tyres, makes me laugh when people plough loads of money into their cars then put ditch-finder tyres on! Could also look at the powerflex dog bone bush for the engine mount.

If pushing over 200bhp ideally you should be looking at an LSD (limited slip differential) however these will be best part of £1000 for the part and fitting I'd imagine. But you really will benefit in terms of handling and being able to put the power down with one.

You spend a lot and make it into a weapon,

But

Turbo and lines ete/gasket etc with log manifold £850 ish

Downpipe £200

map sensor £45

Exhaust £250

Coilovers £400

brakes £350

FARB and RARB £200

FMIC £470

SMF clutch £800 for good one

remap £200

Various oils etc

Getting towards £4k for a well suited Fabia, if diff needed £4.5k

Definitely need a diff £900

If you want a drive-in and drive-out price just get a specialist like Unit 18 or Darkside to quote for the lot, that way you'll have a warranty and know it's been done properly.

You'll need a new clutch and flywheel if you want more power but the 'sweet spot' for bang vs buck is ~220BHP since standard parts (intake and exhaust) will cope with it, this means a new hybrid turbo and another remap.

The suspension needs replacing and polybushing whatever you do because it's so bad, a rear ARB is strongly recommended along with the 312 brake conversion.

You're looking at about £3k supplied and fitted at a guess.

That's what puts me off modifying these it's just so expensive to get good returns and even if you pump all that money into it, a modern hot hatch with a remap will likely run rings round it! - I'd rather just buy something that's good out of the box that doesn't need as much tweaking personally.

That's very true, but personal preference i suppose. I, like many others i suspect, could go out and just buy an S3 etc, but sticking a massive turbo on a old chug bus hatch back makes us smile, and subsequently wallies in BMW's/Audis get really angry when they get smoked out by us! Can't put a price on that experience!
