Turbo Intake Pipe(s)??? Please clarify for me.

Featured Replies

Hi fellow Octavians,

Ive now pretty much worked out what I want to do to my 2002 4x4 1.8T hatch between now and February (comments welcome)...

(It already has a K&N panel filter and a Forge007p recirc valve and runs the standard K03's which is staying in place)

Blueflame exhaust, downpipe and sports cat

Allard FMIC

Custom Code remap.

Now the question...

Before the remap, is it worth changing the Turbo intake pipe(s)? Im not sure exactly how many pipes require changing - surely theres just one to the actual turbo but in reading lots of threads Ive started loosing the plot a little and seem to be reading about two different pipes that are replaceable?

So can anyone untwist my knickers for me on this subject please. :o How many pipes are there that benefit an upgrade, which ones are recommended (Forge, Samco, Neuspeed?) and is it worth doing in the first place.

Also, if anyone thinks Im missing anything else thats worth replacing please let me know as I'd like to get it all in there before the remap.

Many Thanks as always guys. :)

Lee

2 type of TIPs available...a direct replacement for the standard one from ABD and a Forge/Samco Silicone TIP.

The ABD is just alike for like replacement and you just reconnect the rubber MAF pipe back to it.

The Forge item replaces the "pipe" between the turbo and the MAF housing. This may require retightening from time to time at the turbo end as the pipe sit over the turbo inlet and it clamp with a jubliee clips of sorts.

The main benefit of the Forge item is that it is a single pipe and resists collapse and heat better than the standard rubber item. I also wonder if it is less restrictive as it's the same diameter all the way from MAF to turbo.

Seen the link below to another TIP thread...has a comparative pic of the 2 types.

TIP

I think it is also worthwhile changing the boost pipes to prevent pipe collapse and reduce effects of heat. Forge/Samco are apparently very good. I don't think these need to be changed before a map.

HTH.

NB: All my usual disclaimers apply. ;)

Adrian - Many thanks! Thats great info. :)

Can anyone else share their experiences?

Cheers,

If the remap is a generic one, then it shouldn't matter whether you mod the car before or after having it done. However if it is a custom remap - involving 'tweaking' on a rolling road or on the road - then get it done after the mods.

Hi Denis - yep, it'll be a custom code job on the rollers. :)

Cheers,

Lee

i Repalced the TIP with the ABD One i went for this over the forge one as the forge one A: is hard to come by now as they have stoppped production and B: i wanst convinced about it joining the pipe to the turbo with a jubilee clip when the ABD and Neuspeed one bolt on and are made of metal like the orginal...also i can not see the standard pipe being in good condition 'colapsing' and if it does its due to age or material fatigue and then its only

Forge have just released a revised TIP which is available now AFAIK. A review can be found here: http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forums/392302/ShowPost.aspx

If you're planning on getting Custom-Code phase 2 from JBS then give them a call about your proposed mods and they will be able to advise on what they recommend.

Hi

If you are going to be looking at getting the Phase 2 done then it is best to do ALL the mods before you get the remap done.

Then everything is taken in to account.

The T.I.P is a very good one to do.

On the 150bhp engine I do believe the part that you would require is the TT180IND that is the one that they was awaiting.

But we have one of the Samco ones in stock.

Sarah

I was told that replacing the tip would lower performance as it causes turbulance? or something like that...

i assume that was jabba that told you that boyced??

interesting how one shop contradicts another

Guys - many thanks, Eddy - that link was a good read! :)

Sarah - you have a PM - thanks :)

Lee

Hi Lee

Reply to the PM sent.

Thank you

Sarah

Sarah, how much are they samco ones? how much is it to get it fitted?

It all depends on the engine code as to which one you will need.

The last time I spoke to Forge they had one of them in , but not the other.

But we have 1 left as I mentioned.

There are 2 prices but it would be

Hi Lee

PM`d you back.

Yes I do enjoy this job , but dont tell anyone.

I love Skoda`s and have worked with them for about 6 years now.

I was at a dealer for 5 of those.

But it`s more fun here.

I hope that my PM will help you.

Sarah

Mmmm could this be an early christmas gift to yourself?

Sarah

tempting, but I've just bought a seat cordoba sx track car.... So that getting most of the money spent on it. Can you do anything to make the Seat go faster?

I'll see what Joel's car is like as he's got a go faster TIP fitted.

Would that be the 1.6 engine?

Engine Code would help.

What about a remap?

Look on www.custom-code.co.uk that should help as we do some 1.6 normally aspirated.

Cost is usually an issue with N/A engines as it costs quite a bit for small increases.

What about a 1.8T transplant?

Sarah

its a 2.0 16v ABF engine (as seen in MK3 Golf GTI). Do you offer porting/polishing?

1.8T transplant would be wicked, but I don't think my pocket money stretches that far!

samco used to make an intake pipe for the abf/adl.helped a little at the higher end of the rev range, for the same reason as above, the hose used to colapse under load.

used to sound good too

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Might have a black samco tip forsale by the end of the week. Its the 180 version for the k03s. Not done many miles and i'll want
