What happens in measuring block 2 if you move the steering wheel around? Do those numbers all change?

  • Well the new rack is back on with the right bolt in the dogbone and we have success! Now time to run the clutch in thanks to everyone who gave advice

  • sounds like theres no power getting to pump which to me i check earths again if no joy check live and earth on pump

  • Check fuse number 7 (5 Amp) in the cabin fusebox. If that's blown, it might be a simple fix.

Yeah all the numbers change

Maybe a hydraulic issue then?

Everything looks OK to me electrically.

  • Author

So you think the pump is possibly gone?

  • Sponsor

No, I'm thinking that all looks OK.

What about on block four where it says too low? Is that anything?

  • Author

Oh dear :(

I think that may be normal on TRW systems. If it was a problem, I think it would be triggering a fault code.

In another thread I asked everyone/anyone reading if they could look at that 3rd column in measuring block 4, but no-one did.

Your 'Too low' is exactly what I see on our two TRW-system cars.

Your PAS fluid level is OK, is it?

Rigid hydraulic line crushed flat?

  • Author

Okay, yeah I topped it up yesterday with proper vag fluid from tps..

There is a bit of damage to one of the lines Tbf the one that runs down the chassis leg, but it didn't look flat I will inspect in a bit

That'll be it I think.

:(

  • Author

No visible damage :(

Going back abit...

With everything plugged back in, Fault codes all clear, then taken for a test drive. Do you get any fault codes coming back on?

  • Author

Nope no fault codes

How did you cope with steering the car at parking speeds, all indications are that the PAS system is working, I know when mine went I could barely steer it at all at low speeds, mine is a lighter car with smaller wheels and tyres and I'm huge.

Fine the steering has always been nice and light

I mean today, during the test drive you just mentioned, was it like arm wrestling a Gorilla?

Because I'm wondering if it's gone into reduced assistance mode rather than not working at all.

Ohh yeah it's ridiculous it's so heavy doing little monuvuers and on the road driving it's still bloody heady!

There is a bit when you steer left it's got a little notch where the steering goes a tiny bit light then goes back to stiff

If it has gone into reduced assistance how do I get it back to full

Are you sure the pipe you said is damaged is not restricted?

Might not need much external looking damage to stop flow if its a thick walled pipe.

Nope, well not that I can see, it was actually the clutch fluid pipe that I saw was damaged not the power steering one.

I'm seriously considering just splitting it

It is down heartening when things like this happen but will more than likely still be an easy fix.
