  • Well the new rack is back on with the right bolt in the dogbone and we have success! Now time to run the clutch in thanks to everyone who gave advice

  • sounds like theres no power getting to pump which to me i check earths again if no joy check live and earth on pump

  • Check fuse number 7 (5 Amp) in the cabin fusebox. If that's blown, it might be a simple fix.

We have powers here tho 7EBDEBC3-C0B4-47F5-9155-D78933787FEA_zps

Put the ignition on.

Put the black part of the tester into the earth on the battery.

Put the red part into pin 4 on the smaller plug, it should light up.

Yep it lights up with 12v

The angle sensor cable is vulnerable to being crushed or snagged during a gearbox installation, I'd remove it and end-to-end test it for continuity.

Where is this sensor? And cable?

  • Author

Well I checked the steering angle sensor and there's no live on any of the cables.. So I would assume there's my problem well I hope anyway, I have taken the angle cable out to check for damage but can't see anything

Hmmm - the gearbox is on the nearside, angle sensor on the offside.  Have to assume wiring crush damage perhaps?

  • Author

Quite possibly, I have noticed abit of damage to the power steering fluid pipes that run down the chassis leg and that's also where the sensor cable runs. I just can't see damage to the sensor cable :/ so I guess I'll buy a new cable

You won't get live to them.

Did you check continuity?

Which end of the sensor cable did you measure?

Ignition on?

I hope I'm wrong, but I would have thought you'd get a sensor fault code if it was that.

  • Author

The plug at the right of the pump, just took it off the pump end and checked it with no power

  • Author

Yeah the ignition was on, what do you mean check continuity

  • Sponsor

The power to the sensor comes from the pump unit, so you need to measure at the other end of the cable. Engine may need to be running rather than just ignition on, before you'll see anything there, not sure.

  • Author

Plugged the cable into the pump, turned the car on and tested the live at what would be the sensor end.. I have power there so It's not the cable

Have you scanned it at all today, just to see if it's still saying the same?

  • Author

I haven't I will go and try it now, with the angle sensor unplugged and me starting it up the steering warning light illuminated on the dash

  • Sponsor

That warning light sounds like possibly good news.

Plug everything back in and see what you get.

Came up with this on 'chassis then number 44 steering assist' but I assume that was due to me unplugging the sensor then starting it.

It still won't allow me to go into common then try and access number 16 steering wheel, just comes up no response from controller

  • Sponsor

Clear that code then try driving it again.

Not sure what 16 steering wheel is? I've only ever looked at PAS stuff in 44.

I think the vRS (maybe?) has another angle sender G85 on the steering column, for ASR/ESP type fanciness, maybe that's what 16 looks at?

  • Author

I've cleared the code and started it up but it's still the same will driving make a difference

  • Sponsor

Do you mean it's still showing that code, or still giving no steering assistance?

  • Author

Cleared the code and started it up checked for the code again and it's gone, but there's still no steering assistance

  • Sponsor

Go into measuring blocks within 44, and have a look what measuring blocks 1, 2 & 4 are saying, with engine running.

Terminal 30 (battery) voltage? Have you reconnected all the wiring that hangs off the bracket on the front of the gearbox?
