Main Dealer oil service will i get any isuess with my remap, dpf delete ?

Featured Replies

I am thinking of getting a main dealer oil service as its on offer at the moment, will i get any isuess with my remap and my dpf which has been gutted and mapped out ? should i just go to a local indy ?

Yes go to a Local Indy if you can not change the Oil & Filter yourself.

Why pay Main Dealer Prices for something so simple?

(even Offer Prices.)

?

What is the offer.?

It’s out of warranty so go for the cheapest option whether that be Dealer or Independant.

I honestly can't see why you would have issues. The chances are they won't even know the dpf isn't there unless they're poking around. Just dropping oil isn't anywhere near it. If they do say something tell them it's non of their business!

Main dealers are now very close if not less than independents in my area, more so when they have offers on.

Assuming the car is out of warranty and there are no warranty items picked up during the service then you should have no issues at all.

Go for the best value for money.

I would usually do an oil change myself but my vrs only has 88k on the clock with fsh ,

The oil service is fixed price at £130 but due to me buying some parts they put me on there system and are offering me 10% discount on the fixed price as a new customer ,my car has not been to a main dealer for service since 30k so i dont know if any recalls or upgrades have been done ie injectors, i am worried there maybe an ecu upgrade that may affect the remap,as some early pd vrs,s had an upgrade,

I might ask them to advise before any recall or upgrades carried out,i would imagine they should anyway but it would not suprise me if something like an ecu upgrade was done without telling the customer,i dont trust main dealers as i had problems with an audi main dealer on my old audi b5 s4 that had a cambelt change (they forgot to change the thermostate and did not reconect the aircon sensor to the front bumper) all fixed for free but the car was off the road for another day as its a massive job for the thermostate front end off job .

Many use the Main Dealers exactly for the reason of the Warranty & Updates & ECU Enhancements and a Road Test with a Qualified Technician.

It is a pitty that it is not always done at 'Minor Services', because it should be.

It was good when all new purchases gave a 10% off First Service Voucher, and the Service Campaign or Update checks were done, first when booking in at the Reception Desk and then in the Workshop when the car was in for the Service.

If only all Skoda Main Dealerships were offering it and doing it there might be less owners having issues.

There are Independent Volkswagen Group Specialists with 'All the Gear' and the Licensed Equipment and 'Update Software' & they have all the TPI's that the Main Dealers get, and they maybe pay attention to them,

and they can do the VWG Warranty Work as well.

But at the price on offer maybe as well to get the Health Report & Monor Service done at the Skoda DEalership.

Or at a VW / Seat or Audi Main Dealer if they have a Servicing offer on or even the Standard Prices which often undercut Skoda National Pricing or Offers.

Just tell them what you want doing with no frills.

Oil + Filter + Labour around £75.00 my guess, half that price if DIY..

,,,,,,,,,,,,which is doing it yourself if you know how to,

Mike

I fully agree and have serviced most of my own cars which are over 100k, but due to low millage and fsh i want to keep the resale value of the car by getting it done by dealer/indy,

If your capable of doing it yourself then do that,a PD vrs with 88k on it isnt worth bothering with paying the extra just to have a dealer stamp or even a indy in my opinion,i service & repair my own cars & i have serviced my vrs from its 4th birthday with 30k on the clock, its now 7 years old,i keep every invoice for the parts used & doubt it would put a serious buyer off,if your keeping your car for a few years then do it yourself.

Full service history is important for new cars when it affects price very much. If you wish to use that car 8 years then servicing it at the dealers garage is pointless. Price difference for older cars ain't that much but you will have wasted much money in these years while doing more expensive servicing.

The last service mine had at the dealer was its big 4 year service (the car was still just under warranty at this time) & when i got it back i checked that the filters etc had all been replaced as they should have been & whilst the mechanic/technician had replaced them they had also not fitted the air intake pipe back on correctly & a screw from this had been sucked into the engine, thankfully the air filter caught it,it was also overfilled with engine oil & the wheels had not been removed, when i questioned this i was told they can see the brakes through the wheels!......a day or so later i removed the wheels, rears where stuck onto the hubs & all the pads were siezed in the carriers.......mmmm  dealer servicing is good???......not in my experience.......  :D

I love the way the dealers dress up the service 'description' in an effort to make it sound more comprehensive than it is and go some way to justifying the price.

Even the most comprehensive service only involves:

Oil (£25) and oil filter (£10)

Air Filter (£15)

Pollen Filter (£10)

Fuel Filter (diesel) / spark plugs (petrol) (£20)

And that is it!

Stick an occasional brake fluid change in and you have the car fully serviced.

I think you've over egged the costs there Silver, I can do oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter and pollen filter for less than £60 from TPS, so all genuine parts.

This service is £250 at my local dealer how can they justify it being £120 more than an oil service with just an air filter and fuel filter or spark plugs being the difference and then they put a hash saying only changed if required i wounder how many fuel filters dont get changed .

If you are set up for annual/every 10000km(9400m) servicing, then you will have paid for 3 major services and had the fuel filter replaced once as it is only replaced at around 60000km as per the servicing booklet included with my vehicle.

Even if you ask them (as I have in the past), to change it at the 2nd and 4th service, they will refuse on the grounds it is not part of the Skoda Service regime.

They can, and do refuse to carry it out. It's in the small print below the itemised servicing.

www.skoda.co.uk/owners/service-and-maintenance/simply-fixed/default/

I've raised this point (along with numerous others! )in a Recorded letter to the CEO of SUK.

After 3 months and following it up with emails, I'm still awaiting a response.

I'm not disputing a Skoda dealer will change the diesel fuel filter if you pay extra for it.

The point I was raising in my original post was the price of the £259 Major service remains the same whether they replace the diesel fuel filter or not.

The diesel fuel filter is only replaced when the car reaches 60000km.

Therefore the price of a Major Service should be reduced when items are not replaced in accordance with the Skoda Servicing regime.

Otherwise it could be seen as you've been charged for items which you have not received.

This was one of my points I raised in my letter to SUK.

This is why I tell everyone not to pay for the £259 'major' service, it's a scam.

£139 for the 'minor' service if you don't fancy climbing under the car then do the air, pollen and fuel filters yourself for £30.

I think you've over egged the costs there Silver, I can do oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter and pollen filter for less than £60 from TPS, so all genuine parts.

Those prices are approximate and based on online purchases such as eBay or Euro Car Parts etc. a worst case scenario if you like.

No TPS near me and I've heard they are clamping down on non-trade customers.

When I changed all of the genuine filters on my car I noticed they were all branded MANN. ECP list MANN parts so genuine parts but without the expensive Skoda branded packaging.

If you are set up for annual/every 10000km(9400m) servicing, then you will have paid for 3 major services and had the fuel filter replaced once as it is only replaced at around 60000km as per the servicing booklet included with my vehicle.

Even the most unscrupulous dealers shouldn't be recommending the £259 'major' service every 10,000 miles, it's usually minor @ 10K (£139), minor again at 20K (£139) and then a major at 30K (£259).

The problem is the £259 major service at 30,000 miles will not see the fuel, pollen or air filters changed ( these are rarely replaced before 60,000 miles) i.e. you are getting a minor service for the price of a major service - rip off.

I thought pollen filter was every year ? they changed mine on the fixed price deal last time.

If you are servicing in the warranty period then it's according to manual (I don't know how often it should be done).

But if not then I don't see any reason for changing it or air filter once per year. Last year I changed all filters at the garage. This year I decided to do it myself. The air filter looked quite clean and it was far from the dirty thing seen on advertisements (Change it every year or otherwise it will be a disgusting grey crap like this!). 20k km done and sometimes on gravel roads as well. The same with pollen filter. I did change them because I had these filters bought but I won't do that next year.

They do not cost a fortune but I don't see any reason whey should I change thing that's performs well.

I've heard that dirty air filters increase fuel consumption. I wasn't able to see any difference between before and after.
