Columbus - Multi CD Albums

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As above really. I have a few multi CD albums and when I copied them in FLAC to the HDD I noticed that the order goes all over the place. Is there any way to get the HU to recognise the CD number or am I better off just putting on four albums with titles CD1 - CD4?

Thanks for this - was hoping I could keep it neat and tidy.

Have you got them tagged with Disc# and Track# correctly?

MediaMonkey is a good program for tagging files

Sounds like a plan. Mediamonkey being downloaded as we speak.

Ok just after downloading Mediamonkey and all the songs are labelled correctly including Disc Number. Thing is though that when I put all the tracks into the Columbus it plays the first track of each disc first, second track second and so on..

Any suggestions guys?

OK - so it sounds like Media Monkey ignores the Disc# tag

Only way round it I can think of is by using a naming convention of xyy Title where x is Disc# and yy is Track#

In MM you can use the Mask <Disc><Track:2> - <Title> to achieve this

I'm figuring this out slowly - Thank you Andyvee for your help here so I hope you can bear with me - I'm able to mask using <Album><Disc#><Track#> etc but what does <Track:2> mean or do?

Thanks again from a noob.

Sorry, should have been <Track#:2> - gives you 2 digit track numbers, 01 - 99, so they stay in the correct order in a folder, otherwise they would go 1,11,12,13,2,3,4 etc.

Happy days! Andyvee if you're ever over this side of the water make sure you let me know as I owe you a pint (or four!  )

This has made my life much, much easier.

Glad to help :)

Bugger. Just when I thought things were going well they went downhill. :(

I thought it all went according to plan when playing from the USB stick - however as soon as I copied it over the tracks went in a non order. They're not alphabetical and I don't think it's playing disc 1, track 1 followed by disc 2, track 2 etc.

Might I be able to borrow your knowledge again Andyvee? :) Would I be better off sticking each disc in separate folders or should I keep the entire album in one folder and organised in a particular way?

I don't know why the head unit lets me list file names in order on the usb key but only list track names on the hdd. :|

Just tried individual folders for each disc as well - no luck. It groups them all together.

I'm wondering is there an option in MediaMonkey to physically change the title of each track to match the title of the filename and if that would work e.g. each song would display as 101, 102, 103 etc for the 1 to mean Disc 1 and the 01 to mean track 1 etc.

It's a shame VAG hasn't released software to allow us to organise our music without guess work.

Try numbering the first disc as tracks 1 to 10 for example, then disc 2 as 11 to 20 etc and remove the disc numbers so you have one folder with the tracks named and tagged as tracks 1 to 40 for example

Have you tried using m3u playlists? I use them on my Columbus and it saves messing about with filenames.

Sounds like a plan Andyvee. m3u playlists spacenase? I'll do a google there and see if I have any luck.

Didn't know the Columbus even had an option for playlists.

Ok the best solution I've found - I've renamed each disc as a different Album. Not exactly the tidiest thing but it's far better than the tracks not being in sync. :)
