random rear wipe

Featured Replies

seem a few post from  a search but all seem to point to a mechanical fault but my problems seems to be electrical.

The rear wiper came on completely randomly during a drive and just had a mind of its own, moving the stalk to any position inc spray etc made no difference what so ever.

I ended up pulling the fuse as it was doing my head in.

Even after pulling the voice I could still hear a relay switching?

Also on the odd occasion it randomly stopped itself it would stop in random positions on the screen.

I suspect this is a fault with the stalk and not the motor?

what does anyone think?

Sounds like a stalk fault to me. But have you checked the motor for signs of water ingress? Or has the washer fluid pipe come off?

Do all the rear lights work correctly? Including the boot lights.

Could be a leaking washer pipe pouring water onto the rear electrical connections.

I've never had rear wash to be honest but had the boot apart and there was no damp or wet from the washer pipe so assumed it was leaking upstream in the engine bay.

When i get an hour I'll pull the side panel off again and could check but where does it usually leak from?

I remember a joint above the parking sensor cu but if there another joint along that line?

As far I a know all the lights are working properly, will double check tomorrow

On my estate there is a joint in the pipe where it is held in the same clip as two plugs on the wiring loom. It behind the trim on the floor of the boot on the passenger side.

I posted about the rear wiper on my estate giving a single sweep when starting the engine, only when the back of the car is parked in direct hot sunshine. It doesn't always do it, and doesn't do it if the temperature isn't too hot. No issues with the washer pipe, motor has been replaced and the wiper switch is most definately not in the on position,  and no faults recorded on VCDS. It's a total mystery as to why this happens, there is no pattern to it, and it's something I now live with. So far it has done this only on an initial engine start up, never on the road.

Only thing I can put it down to is interference from the reverse camera setup, but I really don't know.

I think this is a "feature".   Mine does the same every so often but I can't find it as  listed as a "feature"in the manual

I know the front wipers do a little jiggle every so often and this is documented in the manual

"After the windscreen wiper switches off each time or the ignition switches off for the third time, the position of the windscreen wiper changes, this counteracts an early fatigue of the wiper rubbers. "

It happens to me too and I wonder if it is possibly a left over "tear drop" wipe that wasn't actioned before the engine was turned off when parking up?

It's not tear drop or any sort of feature on mine. Most deffinatly an electrical bug of some sort
