One of the front coil springs on the wifes 1.4 TDi estate has snapped. The car has over 100k miles. 

 

I have seen a pair of front struts (springs and dampers) from a 1.6tdi with very low miles on them for what i think is a great price.

 

Would these be ok to fit to the 1.4 TDi or is it a definite no no ?

cool, a garage has quoted £175 just to do the spring.

 

I have done this sort of thing myself before but if it was a more reasonable price i would get it done at a garage but i think the price i have been quoted is a bit steep. £100 + vat for labour. 

 

So i thought that with the milage the car has it may be worth changing the full strut on both sides. 

Just checked myself (never occurred to  me until you mentioned it lol) it would appear that the spring and damper are identical part numbers for the 1.6tdi and 1.4tdi estate.
