Spoiler glue

Featured Replies

I recently bought a rear bumper protector from Superskoda, which came with a tube of "spoiler glue".  Unfortunately there were no instructions.  I tried Google Translate on the Czech label on the tube but it turns out that it's just warnings about what the glue might do to you if you were to decide to inhale it/eat it/use it as a hair restorer etc.

This is actually the second bumper protector I've bought from Superskoda.  It replaces the one that got trashed when I contrived to reverse the car in to a lamp-post a couple of months ago.  I don't know whether I got instructions with the first one I bought but if I did, I don't have them now, and I've definitely forgotten how I went about fitting the first one.

Does anyone know if this is a simple "splodge it on and apply pressure" type glue, or is it a contact adhesive which needs to be applied to both surfaces and left to get tacky first?

I'll obviously be making sure that both the bumper and the protector are clean, dry and free from grease/small children/fairy dust etc.

If I can't work out how this glue is supposed to be used then the other option would be to buy a tube of an appropriate adhesive from Halfrauds or the like, complete with directions on its use expressed in something approximating to English.

Could you not google the make and find the instructions?

Google Translate? although by now one of your neighbours is

probably Czech and could translate direct, :D

Try an experiment with 4 pieces of plastic

stick 2 pieces together immediately.

and the other 2 like a contact adhesive (on both pieces, allow to dry then stick together)

see which works best.

Ditch it altogether and use Double sided sticky tape.

Yeah, that was going to be my suggestion. No fear of damaging the paint.

And sorry for hi-jacking the thread, but in a similar vein, does anyone know if there is a clear, adhesive film available to protect the bumper?

Thanks Urrell, that's what I was thinking of. Just wondered if it is available pre-cut to fit the rear bumper?

Edit: Just searched and it looks as though it's available as an accessory from Skoda. I'll have to get a price for supply only as S&F is £51.00 for a piece of plastic film!

Thanks Urrell, that's what I was thinking of. Just wondered if it is available pre-cut to fit the rear bumper?

I cut a piece of card to fit within the rear opening and allowed about an inch to come over the lip then transferred that to the 3M tape and cut it to fit.

The first bit I got 100x15cm proved too narrow but the 100x20cm is OK.

I've used the same stuff 3M 200 micron. Clear.

It needs to be at least 15cm wide because of the curvature of the bumper and make a template, it's a lot less than £51.

Bought a strip 15cm x 300cm for about £17 last year, thinking I'll have a bit left over in case I need to repair it but it is proving to be good stuff.

Could use some of it to make door sill protectors.  :)
