brake wear indicator Fabia 2

Featured Replies

Swmbo kept harping on about her brake light being illuminated. I had previously checked the pads - they had about 6mm left. I read cures on this forum , which had differences of opinion . I had read about black wire , this is caused by ingress of moisture and the wire turns black. I had noticed the connection plug had been broken where it attaches to the strut. I pulled the plug off and twisted the two wires together and taped it up. The wires were indeed black, and I could not get solder to take. I believe a repair kit can be bought from Skoda for about £58 .Don't bother,  Hey presto !  the light is out , and it lights up when the ignition is turned on initially . SORTED .    I should have pointed out - Fabia 2 , 2008, 1.2 HPT , SE.   I would imagine this would work for other models.

I owned and serviced a VW Passat B5 4Motion for 13 years and had no problems with brake wear wiring - except when VW dealer seemed to have left the hub unsupported while replacing a bearing - they just taped the wire up and hid the breakage, I did not notice that until just before next MOT too late to do anything other than repair the damaged wiring complete with new connector.  I owned and serviced a VW Polo 1.4 16V SE for almost 13 years and never had any problems with brake wear indicator wiring.  If the car is getting handled by a competent person then there need not be any issues, wreckers will always manage to wreck anything they touch!
