Hi Chaps

Just a new guy here and I have a few questions ref re-maps.

After some reading here I see that there are a few different routes for re-mapping the car

1: plug and play type re-map. I assume that this just uploads new data to the ECU, usually via the OBD port

2: Custom code re-map. This guess this is a remap to suit your individual cars needs and is probably better to do this when you have added things like aftermarket exhaust, panel filter etc.

What I am after is some info on which companies offer each service. There are plenty of companies pop up after a google search which offer 40BHP from a plug and play chip and prices range from

I have a custom RICA remap that develops 158 hp @ wheels - it is addictive

Jabba sports my favourite, had both our Skodas re mapped by them, results were "very pleasing"

Beware of anything tht just throws more fuel in, a good remap will give both Improvements in performance & when you are cruising economy will be better as well

I'm in South Shields. Fancy getting a vRS once I have sold my Lotus Elise. Just had to hand the company car back as I have changed jobs and I can't stand the Lotus getting wet and covered in salt so its for sale. Only seen one vRS locally, they seem pretty rare.

Don't rule out tuning boxes. Can be had for significantly less than a remap and can be taken off the car in less than 5 mins and sold on when you sell the car (making the net cost of ownership very small )

One thing is for sure, you have plenty of options for tuning the Furbie vRS.

Oh dear. As an Elise driver i think you will find a Fabia damn right dangerous. The handling is only average and there is a lot of weight over the front wheels. I think you really need to drive it lots before you buy ! What did you have before the Elise ?

I'm a bit further south, Harrogate.....Your right, not many about to be seen Oh and don't forget when you buy a Furbie vRS it's got to be Yellow ( Start's mass colour debate :peepwall: )

I know that the Elise is far removed from the Fabia. I had a Focus TDCI Estate but a Saxo VTS before that. I have been considering a MK4 Golf GT TDI and just come accross a Seat Ibiza Cupra PD160 too.

What i want is a diesel with a bit of "get-up-and-go" about it and most of these fit the bill.

Hmm i used to have a Saxo VTR so i know for a fact they are virtually unbeatable on the handling for a FWD hatchback. The Focus is easily better at handling than both the golf and the Fabia.

The Ibiza a nice spec and is a touch harder on the ride - but i think you need to drive them lots

I've got a Jabba remap on mine it pushes out (confirmed on non-jabba rollers) 180bhp 311lb/ft. Power delivery is smooth and the mpg doesn't drop much on average. Though on full charge in second it will drop to 7.9mpg! :eek:

All the re-mappers have good reviews and all are much of a much.

Best seeing if you can have a ride in a members car with one of the re-maps your looking and asking them a few questions. Also worth noting where is easy for you to get to.

about 140bhp on standard (with green filter and intake) and 194bhp after re-map cant remember what the torque is off the top off my head.

On the Jabba rollers with Green Panel Filter, Cupra Air Intake mine produced 143 before on the Jabba rollers and 195 bhp after. Cant remember the torque before the map but afterwards it had to be detuned to 311 lb/ft for the sake of the clutch.

Not starting an arguement and just IMO but I believe the benchmark for remaps currently is Custom Code (see the post by Sarah from JBS in this thread).

It's not the outright power which is the key, it's the delivery and IMO Custom Code provides the best curves . There is also a "debate" on whether Jabba's figures are correct but i'm happy enough and have seen 201 bhp on an indipendant RR (Top Gear Performance in Doncaster) . I think the dyno may of been slightly out...

Hmmm... you wont by a seat because your street cred will be rock bottom' date=' but your on here asking about skodas :rubchin:

Anyway, I'd say if you can stretch to it, the Cupra is a better buy, as there is less work to be done to tune it, lets look at what it has compared to the Fabia...

+ 17" alloys v's 16" alloys

+ 323 mm Brembo brakes with 4 pot calipers v's 288mm standard with puny calipers

+ A further 10mm lower than the Fabia

+ Already has the 160 air-ducts

+ Has an FMIC, less heat soak compared to Fabia's puny SMIC

+ Already has 160 bhp - almost as much as a remapped Fabia... and it can still be remapped further

+ Better bodykit

In my oppinion I dont think that is entirely true. If you get into a Furb and ramp it maybe.

I regularly got out of my Evo 7 and straight into my Suzuki Alto with no problems.

You just need to remember the differences between cars, whilst you are driving.

I also took my 7 to the dealer to have the test drive in the VRS and was still impressed by it.
