Few Issues- Possibly Serious

Featured Replies

Evening all, Well the wife mentioned the other day the car to be making a few noises saying the car sounds like a fire engine, anyway haven't driven the car untill today and from cold it does sound like a fire engine..you rev it and you hear a whooooo noise so assuming turbo? Also does it when you first start off for say 30 seconds when your up and down the gears, When it's warmed up it does go, however if your up and down the gears briskly shall we say it does come back and around 30mph you get a whining metal noise a little like something grinding on a brake  but its not its from the engine....the car has also got very jerky when your going to accelerate..as such a hesitation and then off we go also like shes holding back and lack of power...it's just happened all of a sudden and then later today sent her on a bit(the car) and hells bells you get upto 3500rpm onwards and it sounds like a bag of ball bearings rattling about it rattles its sack off, it sounds rough but drives as good as it can under the circumstances, no lights on and idles fine so i'm wondering if theirs major issues on the horizon can anybody shed some light as possible issues causing the above.

It is a lease car and yes it will get changed if it breaks but untill then the lease co wont do anything untill it breaks and with the wife and 2 little uns in it i want it right and some idea if its going to go bang..

Surely whilst it’s under warranty it doesn’t matter if it’s a lease car or not... get it back into the dealers for warranty work to be done.

Rattling isn't good - it sounds like you need to get it looked at - have you checked the oil level lately?

I'd just ring Skoda Assist and get them to come out and look at it.

I know what your saying but the lease co have to give you the ok for it to go back and all you get of them is wait untill it breaks then call the AA...utter madness, my gut feeling is i don't think it'll be long before something goes bang..had a nosy under the bonnet but all seems/smells fine granted its used alot of oil just at the bottom of the hatched area but toped it up and still the same.

You need it looked at, regardless of what the lease company want to do (besides, it should be under warranty so no problem for the lease company...).

Could be many things (I'm sure others on here can be more specific in their guesses) but as you said could possibly be turbo related. And if there IS anything serious brewing, then you don't want it to break completely whilst your driving it, especially with family in the car.

Id be straight on to Skoda assist!

Like others have said, you don't want anything failing with little ones in the car

Of course the lease company won't just 'take it back' on your diagnosis as described above.

Do what everyone else has to do - follow the warranty procedure. If you feel the car is low on power and vibrating/rattling then call Skoda Assist and tell them that. They will send someone out, but as you haven't actually broken down it won't be treated as a priority. The earlier you call them though, the earlier your car will be looked at by a mechanic.

Remember, on a lease it isn't your car, so why should it make any difference to you if it does go bang, other than the inconvenience whilst a loan car is sorted out. It is the lease companies problem should there be a major failure.

Let Skoda dealer inspect it right tomorrow and contact the lease with all the information on the fault and on the needed maintenance.

Although in my banana's republic (aka Italy), this has proved working.

Not sure which lease company you are using, or if you understand their policies correctly.

I have a lease car and all warranty issues are dealt with me booking my car in directly with a VW garage. Any work is done under a VW warranty and my lease company get informed out of courtesy by the main dealer. They have no connection with VW, but have an agreement in place where all work is communicated with them.

Not sure why you think it has to break before the lease company gets involved?

Because by the sounds of it the OP is under the impression he will get the car swapped if it breaks!

I'm going on what i have been told in the past, when i had a mondeo a couple of years ago from the same lease co it had an issue and i asked them if it was ok to take it to ford and they said no...i had to let it stop/break then call the AA out who would tow it to fords and i would then be taken to get another car....the wife said its  not a lease car sorry chaps but a long term hire car one of those continual rentals that rolls over month after month...dont know if that changes anything

We do if the car breaks down we get another from the nearest branch wherever we are in the country

If it is a rental you still have the Skoda Assist don't you? Try calling them and give them the reg number and see what they say. If they come out and say it needs to go to a garage then ring the rental company and tell them that.

Which is what normally happens with a rental, but not with a lease car.
