Windows 10 old programs problems

Featured Replies

Anyone had this one and found a solution. M/s seem to have done just that. I's "sorry, that's old unsupported software-go buy an upgrade"

Weirdest outcome is that in W8 onwards, certain versions of Adobe photoshop  won't install. instead you get the message that your version of IE is to low for installation.( as in ,this program needs IE 4.0 or higher- please install). But, on W10, my ie is version 11?????

I've got a vertiably ancient version of Photoshop running on my Win10 install without any issues.

Can't remember which version but it's from about 2001 maybe V7.0

It chucks out some random internet error but it did the same on Win7-64

I doubt it Microsofts fault in this case.

It'll be a bug in the photoshop installer, it will mistakenly see anything above IE10 as being older than IE4 which is obviously incorrect. Looks like it is possible to work around some of these problems but it's requires messing about with the registry which I certainly wouldn't recommend to anyone who doesn't know what there are doing. Out of curiosity, is it photoshop or photoshop elements and what version?

I'd probably just get a newer version of the software.

it's Photo shop elements, but I can't find the version from anywhere on the usual help places . it runs OK on W7, but in XP compatibility mode.

Not really a fix but has anyone seen that when you open a photo using 'Photos' the default app in Windows 10 you can edit photos by clicking on the pencil icon and get some editing tools which are basic, but very serviceable

There is always GIMP. Bit hard to start with but when you can find everything it works quite well.

I'm afraid you might need to buy the newest version. They claim full Win10 support for Photoshop Elements 13 so I'd aim for that and at about £50 it's not too expensive.

Not much good if you have a full photoshop package though - would be gutted if my version of CS4 refused to work (if/when I "upgrade" to Win10).

Your Internet Explorer is no longer Internet Explorer; it's now called Microsoft Edge so possibly Edge v 1.1

On mobile, may need Specsavers lol

Pretty sure Win10 has both IE 11 and edge installed by default.

I thought it's seeing Edge and not IE, so I reverted to IE, still no result, but perhaps that's it- it's still seeing edge. On the good side, Office 2003 and MS photo draw (2000) ,still install and run on W10. My old BJC printer still installs ( albeit in XP SP3      MODE), to let the scanner (BJC2100) install and run . TBH- I've only got W10 as it's a free update. Having tried it, it's nice, but I still prefer W7(which is my OS of choice). to me it's the OS version of the electric/electronic handbrake- nice gadget, but not something I'd pay to have.

What version of photoshop is it? I've got my antiquated CS2 suite running on Win 10 32 bit...

djs-see#4,unless anyone can tell me where the version is hidden It's not in the usual place "about ******" on the help menu.

Have you tried running it in compatibility mode for 7? Bypasses a lot of random stuff...

djs-as in #4, it'll run ok in W7 n xp compatibility mode, but on 10 it won't even install in that.

Run the installer in compatibility mode, does that work.

Also disabling UAC can fix a lot of issues with older software that are not UAC aware.

If you like the feel of Win 7 but the "under the hood improvements" of win 10, have a look at Classic Shell or similar - thats what I have used for the whole time with Win 8/8.1.
