Remap & Maintenance

Featured Replies

Had my VRS done in March 2015, around 10k miles ago. So far no issues apart from an 2-3mpg increase.

I have switched to servicing every 6 months now, with the second service due end sept just an oil change at beadles, where they are charging just for labour, me supplying parts.

I change the air filter and pollen filter every year and the fuel filter was done around 55k.

I have an inspection service carried out annually @TMC canterbury, where they actually remove the wheels, (unlike main dealer) deglaze the brakes and have a good look underneath.

Again, they charge just for labour with me supplying parts. (£65/hr)

Now that the car has hit 70k, this service will be the last at a main dealer, as any future goodwill gesture may be diminished due to mileage & age.

Should I be looking at changing the cambelt and WP earlier than specified due to the remap? Is there anything else I should consider?

I do not drive like I've just stolen it, but do enjoy the torque and acceleration!

Thanks

Be a bit meticulous about checking and changing the oil, and follow SUK's cambelt recommendations. You might also like to think about having a gearbox oil change done (recommend getting a garage to do this, and if you've ever smelt used gear oil you'll know why).

Thanks I will think about having the gearbox done in March then, should be around 80k.

Cambelt due at 5yrs or 100k the 100k will be reached first - may consider doing around 90k

I had a Shark Performance Stage 1 remap from 40k on my. 2010 vRS CR in Feb 2013 - the car is now approaching 95k. As per previous posting for me oil changes are key - every 10k miles the oil and filter is changed without fail. I run fixed servicing schedule every 10k - main service every 20k, lubrication service sandwich between every 10k.

I've got DSG so the DSG service is done every 30k. I had the TB/WP changed at 75k so you've got another 5k to go. I also add Millers Diesel Power Ecomax to every 50 litres of Supermarket diesel.

That's my maintenance schedule and she runs sweet (touch wood).

Cheers for that JDR888

The cambelt service interval changed to 5yrs or 100k miles for models 2012 onwards i believe. I am now changing oil & filter every 10k. What's included in a lubrication service?

If you think the engines putting more strain on components due to the increase in torque, if you've got an extra 25% then replacement schedules should perhaps be reduced by 25% so instead of 100K cambelt I would be looking at 75K

I thought all cam belts where 4 years or 80,000 miles or is that just Diesel engines

It changed to 5 years for cars built sometime after 2010. Mileage limit varies by engine.

September 2010 to be precise.

Only know cos mine was July 2010, so mine was every four years.

You couldn't keep up with all these changes as they started out with a lot of them up to 100,000 miles and something like 8 years then cut it back to the fixed 4 years or 80,000 ... now it's all changed again.

Until it changed to 5 years SUK had always said 4.

The timing belt on my new XC60 is 108,000 miles or 10 years, whichever is sooner (for me, it will be the 108,000 miles easily).

However, the auxiliary belt is 54,000 miles or 3 years, which is done as part of the service regime at the third service.
