Engine blowing blue smoke and burning oil

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently bought an 1.9tdi Octavia Classic  Mark 1 with what I though was very low miles. It turns out that the car was not genuine and as soon as I changed the oil, the car started blowing blue smoke and burning oil. It has since got near impossible to start on the key. I'm assuming there is seals gone in the engine because it is throughing oil up through the outlet pipe on the top of the engine that goes onto the air intake( i dont know the correct name).

I'm in a predicament now because it was a private sale and I have no comeback. I cant sell that car as it is, because it will be only worth scrap value. I'm considering trying to repair the engine myself.

Does anyone have any experience in doing this or any advice for me?

Are you sure you have not over filled it with oil. What grade of oil did you use?

have the PCV? valve checked the one on top of the rockerbox   and connected back  to the inlet,   also the intercooler /pipes and egr valve

Was it burning oil before you changed it? - How was it running then?

Couple of thoughts:-

1) Has it been overfilled - What level does it show on the dipstick?

2) Crankcase ventilation may be blocked blowing oil/fumes out of anything including down valve seals producing smoke

Thanks for the feedback. I cant remember the exact grade of the oil but it was from an auto factors and they said it was the correct type for my car.

The oil level is quite low now. I do not think it was burning oil before i got it but i cant be sure because i changed the oil after 500 miles. It wasnt hard started before I changed the oil and it wasnt smoking or it was it was very little.

The PCV valve is where the car is blowing out oil.

Disconnect pipe out of turbo and look for lots of oil in there, just in case its the turbo oil seals
