Favour Please in Lincoln

Featured Replies

Hi, there is a rallye green fabia estate for sale in Dennis Horton in interested in but they've told me that it was used to carry a dog in within a cage and there is no smell of dog in the car but looking at the pictures online of the boot may show a sign this isn't true due to the air freshener! I've already dodged a bullet luckily when I stumbled across member ant fr post about a white one which I was also interested in.

If someone could be very kind and do me a massive favour and just pop your nose inside the car to smell test I would be very grateful and be a happy to buy you a pint if I end up buying it! Living in south Wales - this would obviously be a long drive to smell something not nice! The video they sent me didn't show any other concerns to be fair. It was supposedly sold by the same salesmen 3 years ago and he knows the owner very well etc.

As there aren't many vrs estates out there this rallye green one I hope will be the one.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan.

I would, but I've got no sense of smell.

I could take the cat and see if she'll get in it?

I was there this morning!

I had a look at the advert just in case it was a Briskoda Members car that i might recognise.

Ask in the MK2 Section and give the registration number maybe.

FW13 NBK

(the VED is £145 i think not £140 as in the advert.)

http://dennishorton.co.uk/skoda/used-cars/3824/skoda-fabia

*Ask them to show you where there are Front Fog lights and how you switch them on, there are no Front Fog lights.*

No Limited Slip Differential either, but there is 'XDS' (EDL)

a 2013 Estate.

You want to check with Skoda UK Customer Services or Hortons Service Desk what if any Warranty Work

has been done if any was required,  heated seat elements for instance,

Oil Consumption Test if a owner had concerns, Breather Mod & ECU update if required if it was using oil,

Service Campaign on the DSG after May 2014 if required, Synthetic Oil changed to mineral and a Software Update,

Sticker in the boot to show it was done.  Not all required this.

and a Minor and Major Service done already.

(at 3 years the Brake Fluid should be changed, and if they are servicing it before collection it would be best to get 4 new spark plugs in.  Skoda Approved Used Cars might get Workshop Checks, but not a Service if one is not due.)

The Dark Chrome Gigaro Wheels are prone to White Spider Corrosion, so you need to check them,

and they might get changed under Warranty, it is a known issue that selling Main Dealers let go, but if there is a Manufacturers Warranty, point them out if you see any Corrosion on the Silver Facing under the Lacquer Coating.

Appreciate everything you have stated. I feel like I'm taking a risk jumping out of the blackline to this but I can't justify the blackline anymore and this fits the bill. I will ask everything you stated and make sure I get an answer back in writing. Thanks.

There are great vRS Fabia out there, and bargains.

Only about 700 are Estates out of the 3,000 Twinchargers in the UK 2010-14, and you are looking at the CTHE engine which there are about 1,200 of since late 2012.

This is the Revised Engine and Software / Engine Management.

Just be sure what has been done to the car and you should have a cracker.

Any smell in the car can easily be dealt with for little money, if not yourself by a Valeter.

As long as it is a Skoda Approved Used Car and with that Warranty you can rest easy.

If the car is all good now, it is just a case of changing Spark Plugs before the Service Schedule / Guideline of 40,000 miles,

best before 25,000, some CTHE engines have one spark plug failing by 17,000 miles.

(Skoda / VW have changed / Updated the OEM Spark Plugs since 2013)

Also it is best if you can run at least 97 Ron Super Unleaded at least, and better is 99 ron from Tesco Momentum or Shell V-Power Nitro+,

the Recommended is 98 Super Unleaded which you do not get in the UK, but they do run on 95 obviously.

@ George,

The said car is a Aug 13 Car  "Should it not have a year left ( or very near ) on the original Warranty from the Factory not just 12 Months Skoda Approved Warranty" .

I think the Factory warranty is better then the S A W and the Warranty should be transferable

Just a thought.

It still has 11 months manufacturers warranty remaining which is good to have. I'm speaking to the salesman later and I'll maybe sure everything is clarified.

It should have the remainder of the Warranty up to whenever 2016,

even longer if the Original Purchaser bought 5 years Warranty so 2018, (2 Year Extension at time of Order / First Registering) and many did opt for 5 years.

Then the 12 Month Skoda Used Approved Warranty on it now is OK,

it covers the £4,500 and Engine replacement or £2,500 that a DSG might cost to replace.

Even the 'New Skoda Extended Warranties' you can buy when the Warranties Expire are good enough for the Expensive stuff if ever they need claimed for.

As long as the Car has had the Servicing and no Remaps or other things in the Exclusions & T&C's

there should be no need for arguing with Warranty Claims if ever required.

(The CTHE Engines (ECU's) could not be remapped, and only recently we have heard here of 2 recently that have been.)

EDIT.  After post above.

So is it a 2013 car first registered August 2013?

Good, all should be fine.

Some late 2012 to Early 2013 CTHE still were having issues,

Summer 2013 is all good.

It was registered 23/08/15. It feels a risk but on the other hand it makes sense for the position we're in. It could turn out to be a long successful drive or another long road trip in the blackline - win win I suppose! Appreciate the comments as well thanks guys.

Many Smiles per miles for not much money.

If you have not driven one yet then it might be a revelation.

The Estate has stronger springs on the rear and actually handles better than the hatch that Skoda added 25 KG of Ballast Weights to the rear making the Official figures having the smaller/shorter hatch being heavier..

So the estates traction and the front wheels is better even though it is a longer vehicle.

32 MPG is usual with mixed driving & 42 MPG plus is easy, and 52 MPG possible on the right kind of trip.

22 mpg if playing hard.

Can you find someone near you to try one if you have not driven one already.?

Even a Seat Ibiza Cupra or Polo GTI Twincharger.

In my previous post I meant it was registered on 23/08/13.

As to how it drives I have a fair idea. I drove an estate fabia for two weeks albeit a 1.2 and I have fond memories of the engine when it came out in the golf gt when I was working for VW and I was able to have a couple of blasts in it. My concerns are the wheels although he said they're perfect and is willing to do a video to prove it and the smell although as someone said previously that can be eliminated unless it's very strong.

I've always ran my petrol "quick" cars on 99 and that's how the fabia will be.

I'm going to Hortons next Saturday if that helps? need to pick up some parts, if you still need someone to have a look just say, might want to tell them someone will be having at look at the car

Thank you very much tempra007 and indeed I'll let them know when I speak to them tomorrow. Salesman was off today so no developments.

Who was it you spoke to? if you say Mr Eversfield will look at it, they know who I am (specially with the lime green monte)

I've been dealing with Richard and I've just finished a phone call with Alan. The phone call was to confirm I'll have the car! They said the usual that someone is interested in it that has just wrote their car off so they need a car asap. Alan confirmed a few things I had concerns with were ok and as I don't want to risk losing it as it's a very good deal for me, I told them I'll have it.

Thanks to everyone's comments which did hep and thanks to tempera for the offer to view it for me. Still feel free to view though :-)

Edit - Pressed post by accident.

Just waiting for my plate to go on retention then a nice drive to Lincoln will be happening.

Have you done your plate on line?  Did both of ours this weekend in minutes.  Couldn't be easier.

Yeah did it online Chris, was very surprised by the rapid result of being told you can start using the original reg straight away. Not the usual service from dvla but I'm not complaining,it's good to see things are getting better plus it was easier to change the insurance to the new reg for free and online. Waiting for Horton to confirm when it's ready but I'm easy for this Saturday coming or next so I might see you tempra! Going to ask for a litre of oil just in-case for the drive home but hopefully all will be good. Top service so far from Dennis Horton, let's hope it stays that way.

I am surprised you can change your Insurance on line and for free.  They normally want an Admin fee for pressing a few buttons on a keyboard.

Can we assume the Insurance for the Twincharger is lower than for the Blackline.?

  • Author

When I took the insurance out with admiral three years ago there was a twenty or thirty pound charge but that has now gone by the looks as I read every word on the page and there was nothing stating a pound sign.

We can assume it will be less plus that's what I told the Mrs but I'll find out tomorrow. Either way I can't see it being much more.

Will miss the private plate though but it's costing so much transferring it every year or two it's time it has a break for a few years.

Things have changed. Quote Me happy is free to change online and excellent service...and very good rates. My new VRS is cheaper although they recently charged a whopping 61 pence to allow business use.

Had confirmation this evening I'll be refunded £7.25 for the insurance which is fair enough. I will also give admiral a thumbs up with how quick and effective they have been through each request I've made.

Picking car up on the 26th and so far the whole process with Dennis Horton has gone seemingly well, long may it continue.

And finally, the new v5 document has arrived along with the retention document. It's all going to smoothly but I'm not complaining.
