  • Thanks for this. When I did my test install, I saw there were two aerial wires coming into the double Fakra connector, but was unsure if these were just two feeds off the one roof aerial to spoof the

  • Well, you can source a Amundsen sat nav unit for the rapid for £250 and up on eBay. Fitting is just an issue of time and patience as it's largely plug-and-play (the only fiddly bit will be installing

  • Yes, You will lose warranty just for that what you changed... In this matter... If you fitted aftermarket HU, you are losing warranty for a factory HU... nothing more...

I have heard from a fairly reliable source that if i fit a 3rd party device myself (i.e. the garage doesn't do it) my warranty could be void so trying to save money that way is down the drain.

You can always put the original head unit back in come service time. :)

The touch screen device has only come out on the rapid in the last few weeks as you’re your car was built previous to  this and It is not compatible  to take this device

I take it they mean a different touch screen device from the one that's been fitted to the Rapid since 2012?

Or did I miss your irony?

They haven't got a clue about these fitments.

Anyone have a pic of 2013/2014 rapid with a touchscreen fitted from factory that i can send on to them?

I haven't got a picture at the moment but rest assured my Feb 2014 build has factory fit  Amundsen+ touchscreen (Ok Seat Media 2.2 - it's the same)

I'll nip outside and take one.

Thanks! Im sure it will do nothing more than annoy them for being proven wrong, and they will either ignore me or quote some ridiculous price, but il be happier!

If you dont want nav, there is the similar looking Bolero touch screen radio - About £150 used on ebay.

I've gone ahead and ordered the Xtrons PX71MTVDAB unit. Got it for £190 inc delivery, which is a good price considering what it can supposedly do.

Figured that if it doesn't play nice with the Rapid, it can go in the Fabia II Combi. That has just a basic Swing in it, no Bluetooth, no handsfree, no steering controls and no reversing sensors, so it'll be a massive upgrade for that car and a clean install.

Me... :)

but... it's old model. I don't have parking sensors... but I've got a rear view camera... :)

I see you have an MDI port fitted, and have factory bluetooth (based on your steering wheel. Ho do these work in relation to your aftermarket head unit?

They work ;)

They work ;)

Yes, but what about the Bluetooth built into your new unit - which has priority over the call answer button on the steering wheel.

Does your head unit recognise when something is plugged into MDI, and does it still have track information and control over MDI?

Not that I need MDI to work, just curious. More concerned about potential of having two Bluetooth systems running in the car and the steering wheel controls only controlling the wrong one.

Do not pair two BT...

tt user

Obviously you don't pair your phone to both - you are misunderstanding my question.

Which Bluetooth system has priority control over the steering wheel buttons - the VAG module, or the aftermarket head unit?

Hm...

When phone is connected to aftermarket BT you can pick up incoming call by button on left side steering wheel... but to disconnect call you have to use HU screen or HU button... When phone is connected to VAG BT you've got full control to pick up or disconnect calls... My HU is two years old, so newer can be more accurate...

Right side steering wheel still operate VAG BT... because it's connected in car CANBUS. I don't want to change it...

I think it will not recognise/ignore the aftermarket unit as its default is the factory BT module.

This is my concern, and I don't want half the buttons on the steering wheel not working as needed.

Will see how it goes, but if it doesn't behave I'll boot it to the Fabia.

Right side steering wheel buttons are used to manipulate IC and devices connected to CANBUS... Manu: settings, radio (sd, phone on HU), VAG BT and car info (open door).

To remove VAG BT you need to reprogramm your car net by changing config file by VCDS... AS I sad before I don't want do it...
