Fabia Vrs non cranking

Featured Replies

Hi everyone!

Got the wire of death symptoms again (3rd time now) I extended the wire the first time 3 years ago then second time 1 year ago it had broken off at the wire to the plug do re soldered it!

This time it is still connected and won't start if you wiggle the wire while cranking or anything!

Checked power to wire and nothing!

Starter works if I run a wire from battery + to starter terminal, so motor etc is ok!!

Anyone had experience of ignition switch issues?

Is it fuse and or relay fed??

Hope someone can help!

Thanks in advance guys/girls!!

it's fed thro' the engine fusebox to the switch  no relay  from memory the electrical switch and lock can be seperated without taking off the lock shearbolt   you may well get away with a contact cleaner

Great thanks, just going out to check fuses, is it the box drivers side dash?

Any idea of number??

Before I take ignition switch out!!

Thanks

As far as I can see, it's a 2.5mm2 red/black wire from ignition switch to connector at firewall, then a 1.5mm2 red/black direct from there to the starter solenoid connector.

Thanks for info, think I'm going to have to get batt and tray out again to trace it, can't seem to get the steering column cowl off, can't get to 2 screws with steering wheel on!

I have no experience of problems with this wire anywhere other than at the entry to the solenoid connector, but I'd imagine another vulnerable point would be where that wire emerges from trunking/loom-wrap. That would be another place where it would flex under vibration and engine movement.

With battery out opened the trunking and the red/black wire is folded back on itself in the trunking. Shaved a bit of the cable outer back to expose the wire and I have continuity from that point to the stater plug where it is ok if I hot wire it to!!

I'm thinking it's going to be fuse or switch end now??

For those that helped or come across a similar fault....

The auto electrician checked it out to be a problem with the starter control module and fitted a new relay and by passed it I believe!!

Thanks guys

glad it's sorted-----starter control module?
