Ste's Sunday Shine - Golf GTi prep

The A45 you mention is a machine! I love those things. If I was in a position to sell the Fabia I'd look into one. It's the price that puts me off haha!

  • Well - finally got enough free time to go out in the C63 AMG for an hour on Friday.   Enough time to experience the simply savage power of this engine, burn £20 worth of fuel, drift round a couple

  • Never mind the golf get some pictures of the AMG when he gets it. I will always miss that engine no car sounds the same in the workshop as a 6.2 NA, the black series was crazy!

  • Met up with my mate who owns the Golf GTi over the weekend at the local festival.   No update on the Merc AMG with the correct spec being found as yet.   A few compliments coming back on the GTi t

The new one is even better 381hp and this one was fully loaded spec wise.

https://flic.kr/p/BSxA9K

50k Mark though which is crazy.

Seriously quick motors! Well built etc but as you state, 50k is a lot of cash for a hot hatch!

Had a brand new black one in last week and a 22 year old young player for the Ospreys bought it lol. Played against him when I played rugby... Why can't I run with a ball as good as some people could be loaded.

Yes - i really like these myself - but certainly not at that price.

The RS3 chap at work did look into the new 381bhp Merc as well.... very briefly;

but the price and the lead times on the new model put him off.

I'd rather a RS3 seems to have a better noise because of its 5 pot and I'd say it's more of a usable car as the A class is quite small especially in the back. Also not a good car very very common for water leaks. Averaging about 2/3 a week in work it's mental.

For sure - i'm sold on the RS3 if i had that sort of cash to blow; as you say the 5-pot, the tuning options, the reliability etc.

It's just a bit too small for the family option though - IMO.

I should also say - the space in the rear of the C63 with the drivers seat back is shocking as well.

I actually was thinking about that. I changed a seat frame on a C63 and the seats are bloody huge and soo heavy, struggled with room in the back to get the bolts. May aswel have the coupe but I wouldn't ever say no to a C63 estate. Proper family car but then again the new RS4 is nice too, all a dream as I have no where near that much money lol.

At the moment - the only car i've driven and enjoyed the space and power, as a family car, was the RS6;

but then again - the weakness is that due to the weight, the handling was suffering as a result.

A curve-ball option i want to test drive is the Volvo V60 Polestar...maybe not as hardcore - but ticks the boxes in many ways.

SWMBO - would be happy with either - then i can get my proper sports car sorted... LOL

Going to google about the Volvo don't really know anything about it. Plenty of brilliant cars out there just the whole money thing lol. So until I win the lottery and buy my P1 the Fabia will have to do.

haha - yes indeed..... plenty options for sure... but the P1 will have to wait for the Lotto to come up!

We plan to make some changes on the cars and get a decent balance of family car and sports car.

But we shall see..... its nice to dream, read up in Evo magazine, take the odd test drive.... you never know what is around the corner....

I'm hoping they sort the company car scheme out meant to be dropping in price so will be around £200-250 ish a month for a CLA220 cdi Sport :) be really happy with that like how it looks and the gearbox is quite good too. Abit more poke than my Fabia and just a nicer all round car. Also looks good if I'm driving a Mercedes for my age.

Sounds nice indeed buddy! I do like the CLA shape.

A chap at work as the more basic model with the 1.6 turbo i think?

He loves it actually; but he does have a Porsche Boxster S to enjoy at the weekend too mind you!

I keep getting surprised by that engine says it's only 122hp but everyone I drive keeps to go better and better. Again can't beat a cla 45 but then back up to silly money again

Yes indeed - i laughed at him when he ordered it.... 122bhp!

But it drives really well and seems gutsy enough with enough torque.

To be fair he has never complained and gets good mpg too.

There's a white one like that on Instagram and he's supercharged it think it's 760hp ish. Mental car also a black pre facelift both UK owned. Never ever got out of one and though ah that's slow il supercharge it lol.

Had a C63 at my last job, loved that car. Even just driving it was a pleasure. My old boss has a video of him doing 174mph in it. The best laugh to have with it was, start up on a cold morning when somebody walks past. The bark from it was mental.

Ah cold starts ! Amazing noise. Best cold start I've heard is a ML63 with a Brabus pack on. Gave it a small Rev to 2000rpm ish and just popped and banged. Fair play the cars themselves have problems but AMG engines are unreal

The cold start is a very sharp bark indeed.!!

We managed to scare my neighbour with this just as my mate was leaving - he near jumped out his skin at the sound reverberating around the estate! :giggle:  ;)

Well - looks like i'll have the Merc AMG back for some detailing this weekend.

My mate is off on his jollies for a couple of weeks and is leaving the car with me.

Seeing as we are a one car family at the moment - helps me out.... especially to enjoy my detailing hobby whilst the missus has the R36.

He kindly added me to the insurance for the period - only stipulation given - he wants it back with "legal" rubber on the rear. :giggle:

He's already on his 2nd set of rear tyres in the time of ownership.... and about 7k miles!!! ouch!

....i figure 2 weeks will be enough - the cold start bark will resonate quite loudly in our cul-de-sac! :D

Oh how lucky can someone be!! A monster of a car. Although the 2 sets of tyres in 7K is outrageous LOL!

I'm sure the bark of the AMG lump will somewhat annoy the neighbors a little but worth it ;)

If you need a hand on the detailing front, I'm free Sunday for a few hours so I'll happily come and lend a hand! [emoji106]

Great idea mate - if you are about; that's a nice plan for sure. Sunday is perfect

I thought it would be good to maybe test the remainder of that EZ kit on this one.....

Gecko glass, Viper wheels, Slick tyre dressing and any others.

Maybe test Powerlock or EZ Ultra sealant for the white paint?

...then finish with a coat of AP-Evolve wax.

That's great, count me in!.

The EZ Ultra Sealant is looking very promising on lighter coloured cars so I have seen so certainly worth a try.

AP evolve - Another great choice!
