Anyone heard of Mannol Oil or used it

Featured Replies

If someone makes counterfeit goods any place in the world like oils, then the bottles will not be tampered with they look like the real thing.

It is 2021 after all.  No dodgy spelling mistakes.

Even from a trusted seller some dodgy employee can put snide goods among the genuine stock and flog the good stuff they pinch and pocket the money.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply Mazzer. As the oil was so cheap and it was so worryingly thin I’ll probably do as you suggest and replace it, despite hating to waste anything. I’ll maybe try writing to Mannol in Germany (using Google translate, sadly) and see what they say - probably that it’s as good as any other despite its low viscosity! I’ll post their reply if I get one

Cheers!

No problem,

Last time I changed gear oil was in my 205 1.9 gti. Think it was motaquip.... I've just replaced my bikes with mannol antifreeze. I've got 2 cans of the long life stuff for the vrs. I'll use that in the diesel one. See how I get on; annoying though when you think you've beat the system and something like this crops up.

Is it noticeably cruncher or notchier now then.? Have to say if I were going to copy oil I wouldnt use a cheap brand. Or have they gone for volume sales just a thought.

Just bought Mannol 75W80 g

GL4 gear oil to top-up gearbox.  Amazed to see how thin it was. Poured and mixed almost like water. Never seen a gear oil so thin. Very concerned. 5l bottle was sealed so not tampered with. Would be worried about the viscosity if it were a 5W30 engine oil. Saw a blog elsewhere about it used in a VW. Owner noticed excess noise and poor gear changing. Drained and replaced with VW oil and all fine. I’m going to do the same. Any comments would be helpful.

There's an interesting chart towards the bottom of the page here, comparing viscosity values of 'crankcase' and 'gear' oils graded in the SAE system. As you will see, the numbers are in no way equivalent, and a 75W gear oil can in fact have a viscosity very close to a 5W engine oil. Weird, huh?

Someone please explain VG and weight | Bob Is The Oil Guy

I'm on a device that I can't work fully just now, or I'd screenshot the chart; if someone else would like to, it would be good.

Here is the screenshot.

If the car is decent, put decent oil in it.:)  What is the point of saving a few quid on oil when it is literally the life blood of your cars powerplant? I'm as tight as they come, but Shell, Mobil, Castrol and other well known oils are only ever a few quid more. Just my opinion, but is that £10 or whatever really worth saving? Think of all the time and money spent finding a car in the first place, and then save a couple of shekels come service time? Doesn't add up to me.
