From a diesel car to a petrol car

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

My 2012 Octavia 2.0 tdi (110bhp) is in the Skoda dealer now as it needs a new DMF. Don't start me on that! It's been there 3 weeks already with no communication from the dealer! Don't worry, my lawyer will sort Skoda out (Skoda Poland, that is.)

Anyway, I think it's time to change and get a petrol Fabia 1.2 tsi 110bhp with a manual gearbox. My leasing ends in 7 months' time.

As a driver, I do mostly motorway driving at 70-80mph. I am not really bothered about being a boy racer anymore.

I have a courtesy car now, a Rapid with only 5 gears and 86bhp.

I must say I was surprised at how quiet it is at tickover from inside the cabin and it's sprightly.

If I have to grumble, I think it's a bit loud over 70mph regarding rpm.

If anyone has a 6-speed manual 110bhp tsi, could you please tell me how many rpm it's doing at 70-80mph?

Is it quiet at motorway speeds i.e. can I have a reasonable conversation without shouting?

To finish, I notice that the Rapid goes round corners ok and the steering is so light compared to my heavy diesel lump, and the gearbox is really nice and light and great changing gears. I hope the new Fabia is the same. Either way, a test drive will show me.

Thanks for any help.

Steve

At 120 I think its 2500 rpm. Thats my highway standardpace.

On my Fabia III SE L 1.2 TSI/110bhp DSG it cruises at just about 2400rpm at 70mph. Ride is good on 16” wheels and steering is incredibly light compared to my previous Volvo S60. It is easy to park...turning circle is much tighter than the Volvo, (which was notably poor, even for a Volvo). Only got some 600 miles on at present but it feels as though it will be chuckable delight and Sport mode on the DSG could be fun. Warm and civilised hatch, I think. Sports seats might have been nice with hindsight, but nothing to regret. Getting to grips with the incredible options available via the "Bolero" unit. SD card loaded with some silly number of music tracks. Goodly number of DAB radio stations locked in, USB happily plays slide show, (but I don't run it whilst driving, of course) and still finding things that Maxi-dot does. All in all, lots that I like, nothing I dislike and I'm happy.

Assuming youre talking kmh here ;)

Of course I am. I think they went to metric over at the Incontinent quite many years ago? :)
