Featured Replies

Hello everyone again:

As you know I've had several problems with my felicia, as you may have read in other post.

Today I have finally solved after "allegedly" being repaired

I could be in the process of repair and I'll put pictures to someone if he could be of help

I am not an expert in mechanics so if I miss any step may forum experts to complete the information in this post

The first came to the workshop and explained that despite the mechanical repair of the car continues to mix water with oil, does not have power, etc.

He tells me not to worry that everything is at your own and I stay in the workshop

and begin work

I have trouble uploading photos post says I've exceeded the limit of space, will try to raise them later or put them in the post

Catalyst problem?

I try later or tomorrow i cant.

You will find that as you're not a freedom member, you only have a limited amount of time to edit a post before it's 'locked'. Also, the best way for people to be able to view your photos is when you link to them on such as picasa etc. There are quite a few threads explaining how to do this.

Once you got it sussed then pm me and I'll tidy up the thread.

ok I understand. I do not use picassa I put some pictures in the gallery section on projects under the title repair butt but I still would like to put only about 4 or 5 photos. It would be possible to send them to any member that might come up?

Many thanks

Ismael

Create an archive (ZIP or RAR) from all photos you took and upload it at http://www.zippyshare.com/

You will get a link after upload. Post the link in here and I will do the rest.

Are you sure the repair is good now? What went wrong last time?

Hi Ricardo I will, thank you very much.

What went wrong and what you see in the photos and that they had not filled out the cylinder head  and only reviewed the mechanical hoped that this would not problems but made a mistake and that cost him a nearly 3,000 Dominican pesos because I had to search for a cylinder head  in good condition, coolant and all the work to assemble and disassemble.

I was in the process and saw how they used the proper tools etc.

When the pictures are ready, I notice

I have looked at all original photos you took during repair.

Let me show everybody what happens when the head gasket is replaced without measuring for straightness the cylinder head and the engine block. You are looking at the bottom side of the cylinder head after it was removed for the 2nd time.

It is not sure if the mechanic bought a new head gasket (!) or reused the old one... Is that your trusty, honest mechanic. From my own experience, the words "honest" and "mechanic" can't exist side by side in a sentence.

I can't tell from the rest of the photos if the mechanics worked well this time. They installed a new head gasket and they have a torque wrench. Those are the good things. I didn't see if the engine head was straightened and I didn't see them measuring the engine compression after they finished the job. One thing I didn't like is they mixed the push rods in a box. Each push rod must be inserted back into the same block hole as before opening the engine.

Also it is not a good idea to put the head bolts in the dirt on the floor. Hopefully they cleaned them thoroughly before installing the head.

In conclusion, I can't say if this time the job has been done properly or if they had all the right tools to measure various vital things during and after repair. Let's hope for the best. I recommend you to stress the engine at maximum torque and power on steep hills and high rpm. If something is not right, it will show immediately.

Again thank you very much Ricardo. So far so good the car is much stronger and now the car does not die but when I press the accelerator notice as the car pulls hard.

Now I only wipe the carburetor, change the fuel filter small bearing, using quality gasoline, which has started me to piston to use regular gasoline and expect it to last a long time working.

Felicia 1.3 engine on carburetor is designed to use regular gasoline. Premium.gasoline doesn't help, on the contrary.

Tuning the engine is an art. I don't think cleaning the carburetor will change something, unless it is completely filthy. Remember that some mechanics send you on false paths. Remember you have been advised that there ia a plugged exhaust?

Most importantly, the ultimate proof they did a good job is to do a compression test in your presence. No good compression, no power. Why do you accept what they say instead showing you the evidence? Do you want to be fooled twice?

Greetings again. Today I spent the tank of regular gasoline that had placed him.

I've put premium to eliminate that possibility as a possible cause of the knocking and surprise, since joining the premium gasoline engine knocking and the car disappeared is even better.

I understand that the car is ready for regular gasoline, if the gasoline quality was good, but here in Mao already known several cases of cars damaged by the poor quality of petrol and in fact today I met a man who would it happened just that.

Sadly it has to pick up where to put gasoline to not damage your car.

Greetings to all.

knocking by google translatator in spanish is : pistoneo

I like to see " pistons noise " no " knocking "

bye, bye to all

Let's hope the mechanics set correctly the vslve gap (which I doubt).

Let's hope the ignition timing is correctly set (which I doubt).

Let's hope you'll find a compression tester to know exactly how healthy is your engine after the last repair.

My impression is that you trust verbal contracts. I trust only what I measure with specific testers.

As for the knocking sound, the engine of Felicia can be destroyed by preignition shocks only if you put diesel fuel instead of gasoline or if the owner is deaf and can't hear the specific preignition knock and keeps driving with a bad ignition timing. A knocking sound can have other mechanical cause too such as: worn conrod bearings, worn pistons, etc.

If you feel confident that you know better what should be done to your engine, feel free to experiment. But if you have doubts, record a video of your engine running and go close to each cylinder to hear the knocking.

Ricardo Thanks for your insights but wrong.

Not that rely on verbal contracts, if so had not come to the shop and had thought it was not the fault of mechanical, sometimes do not have time or do not find the appropriate tools or mechanical around you are worst especially here in Rep. Dominicana thing I think you better than anyone should understand.

So until you find a compression gauge where I live here or have the time to go to a place where they have it, I can only rely on the obvious changes that I felt in the car.

Sadly in this country in very difficult to do things as well as you raise, for all the above and many more factors, which obviously would be more correct, but for those who do not live in the capital makes us very difficult.

Thanks for your advice and hope to continue helping us all
