Cat C VIC to be abolished

Featured Replies

Was sat reading up today that the VIC (Vehicle Identity Check) to try and prevent cloning and cut and shuts etc is to be abolished come October this year, bit of an odd move IMO, however I've seen the system as flawed due to lack of test centres.

I guess the MOT will pick up any problems with identity or unsafe repairs these days.  The old VIC test as it is done now, is just to check VIN no's, reg. no. year etc. and nothing mechanical, so no loss there.   I assume the V5 will still annotated with the cars write off category.

I thought the VIC test was to ensure you didn't steal a car and swap the smashed up car's ID onto it.

Either way I suspect it's only being dropped to them closing test centres and so removing one of the jobs VOSA have to do...

Not sure I think this is a good idea.
