MY16 - enabling needle staging (sweep) on the instruments..

Featured Replies

Has anybody tried this on a MY16 car? I couldn't find the correct value with VCDS 14.10.2, should I use the latest VCDS version 15.7.1 to make it work?

Enabling needle staging (sweep) on the instruments

This is standard on a vRS.

Controller 17 - Instruments

07 - Coding

Byte 1

Enable Bit 0 - Gauge Test/Needle Sweep (Staging) active

Works fine on MY16, I used an earlier version of VCDS but it should not affect that. Did you find the right controller, channel?

Yawn - read the VCDS sticky thread!

How do you expect an old version of VCDS to have label files for a controller version only just released???????????

You could of course just edit the binary so the LSB is a 1 instead of a 0 ..........

This is witchcraft. It is awesome how you can add different things to the car

It works fine with ver 14.x and 15.x probably you are right with the selection of bit, we are all beginners at the beginning.

There is a reason why I advise people to use the latest version, other than the label files other changes are made beneath the hood to support newer controllers - such as timings and block sizes, as well as support for new addresses of controllers.

But feel free to ignore me.

You are perfectly right with the support for newer controllers, but for the problem described it this post, version 14.x or 15.x do not matter. As you said and I confirmed, it's more like that the wrong bit was choosen.

If you looked at the picture you would see that the label file didn't have the checkbox for bit 0. So the OP didn't have the option of enabling it unless they edited the binary or hex manually. Using the latest version with the latest label files usually solves issues such as this. That is why my advice is always use the latest version on the MQB platform.

If I had £1 for every 'it doesn't work' query I have had that is due to an outdated version being used I would be a rich man. If you have a legitimate copy of VCDS there is no reason to not update.

If of course you have an eBay hooky special then updating will wipe your cable LOL.

There was someone a week or two ago complaining that their hooky copy of 12.x wouldn't enable something. They didn't get much help from me.

Having spent 2 years working on the MQB platform with VCDS I have seen the progression in support for the MQB platform, have contributed valuable information, logs etc to Ross- Tech, troubleshooted the coding BCM slave modules such as RLFS that VCDS was unable to access, but VCP could, made feature requests that have been implemented such as the ability to perform soft resets on controllers so that adaptation channel changes work without having to reset to defaults in the MIB etc.....

But as I said earlier, feel free to ignore me.

Why so hostile, I'm not ignoring anyone, just got my first VCDS capable car so I'm still learning. I ALREADY GOT that the latest VCDS should be used with MY16. I think my fisrt post was a little confusing, a part of it was merely a copy from another thread. Today I realized what was my mistake - I was staring at Byte 0 instead of Byte 1, so the mystery is now solved:

1. Controller 17-Instruments

VCDS_1.jpg

2. Coding - 07

VCDS_2.jpg

3. Byte 0

VCDS_3.jpg

4. Byte 1

So click on byte 1 so you can edit it, you are on Byte 0, 07 in yellow.

You need to be editing Byte 1 which is the next block along, which has a value of A4 in green at the moment.

You can use tab to move between the bytes, or just click in the box.

Post not aimed at you BTW, there are multiple reasons for using the latest version, hence why the first advice is update VCDS as stated in my thread you copied the screenshot from.

Some of the reasons aren't obvious.

I get many PM s and a lot are solved by using the latest version.

Ok, thanks andyvee for explaining, I'm just starting to understand the VCDS capabilities.

So now put a tick in the box for Bit 0

Already did, everything is working :)

Nice to see that the problem has been resolved.

VCDS can be a mystical art but Andy should be a member of the Magic Circle. It's all too easy to have a basic understanding but quite difficult moving up to the upper echelons!
