Update on DMF situation

Featured Replies

Hello all,

A few weeks ago I wrote about my travails with my Octavia, i.e. my huge crash, then another problem and now the DMF going and obviously a new one is required, plus a new clutch.

Skoda have decided to pay for all the parts, so about 10,000 zl which is about 2000 pounds sterling and 70 percent of the labour. I will have to pay about 120 pounds in total. Lucky man.

Mind you I have now been waiting over 3 weeks and no sign of the parts arriving.

The Skoda Poland main warehouse in Poznan, unbelievably, has no DMF and clutches for an Octavia II and this is strange, as this car is the most popular car in Poland.

So I am waiting for the parts to come from the Skoda factory which makes and made my car, in Mlada Boleslav, which is only 250kms from me. I could drive and get them myself!

I can't complain too much having written the above, but my goodness, 3 weeks is a bit rich. Perhaps I am impatient.

My car has 30,000 miles on the clock so yes, I am very grateful to Skoda for their goodwill. My car is out of warranty, in Poland you only get 2 years. Yep, that's true.

I want to drive to England next Friday but have given up on that idea.

What's the longest any of you have waited to get your car back for a repair or parts etc?

Steve

Once Skoda dealer said that I might need to wait ~2 weeks for the part. After inspection it was clear that I didn't need that part and so I didn't need to wait (needed that damn expensive DMF that WAS available in that day for BIG MONEY :D).

A colleague of mine once waited 3 months (!!!) for her Toyotas engine and gearbox (automatic transmisson) to be changed. It was done under warranty so there could be less arguing about the timing but 3 months seems a bit too much :) Maybe she could reduce the time by being more insistent but she probably wasn't.

If everything ends in 3 weeks and it's done for reasonable price then maybe you can wait but in this case seems like nobody knows how long will you wait...

You're right, there is nothing I can do but wait. Of course, when the parts arrive it will take them a day to do the work. I don't know what the situation is in England but this dealer is in fact 24 hours open, the only one in Poland so far. Even at midnight or 1am I know they are working on cars and preparing new ones.
