So where are we with the SIII diesel engines?

Featured Replies

Now that some dust is beginning to settle on this emissions fix affair, where are we with the new Superb diesel engines? Are they going to have to admit to higher fuel consumption? Are they even going to change ECU settings to give worse economy in the interests of lower emissions?

So many questions.....so little time

I don't think it will effect the S3.

MkII yes (maybe) but not the MKIII....

MkII yes but not the MKIII....

Looking at the updated technical spreadsheet for Superb it appears there are gaps in the information surrounding emissions, particularly the HC / HC + NOx + Noise Level which are all blank.

Also several notable gaps around NOx and particles with 'blanks' and 'TBC' listings amongst other engines including the 1.6TDi 120PS and the 1.4TSi 150PS ACT DSG & 2.0TSi 280 DSG trims.

Normal omission or confirmation of the emission issues ongoing?? I wonder...

Example:

Manufacturer: ŠKODA ŠKODA ŠKODA Model: Superb Superb Superb Trim: SE SE SE Derivative: SE 1.4 TSI 150PS DSG ACT  SE 1.6 TDI 120PS  SE 1.6 TDI 120PS DSG TMAIMG: 3V53LD 3V5325 3V532D         EMISSIONS       CO       CO2 (g/km) 119 109 105 HC       HC+NOx       Noise Level dB(A)       NOx   46.9 TBC Particles   0.27 TBC Standard Euro Emissions EU6 EU6 EU6

Nothing official has implicated any EU6 engine, as used in the Mk3 Superb.

What conclusions and speculations you want to make are entirely your own.

So if one wanted to get the official testers line on this, who should one ask?

Has skoda officially said that we can trust the emissions figures?m

It would appear that the motoring press suspect it very unlikely that the EU6 engines are affected, which is about as comforting as I'm going to get, and probably comforting enough...

I admire your optimism. Personally I think the dust is still on its way up.

I reckon that my downside is pretty limited, seeing as I'm leasing.

Skoda’s official take on it:

Please find below a copy of last night's latest communication to us from Skoda UK; essentially confirming the key points that have been bouncing around during recent days.

Fortunately the US VW testing debacle does not appear to have dented UK customer's appetites for Skoda key models, with our order take upon Yeti, Octavia and New Superb at a continuing high pace, supported by some heavy advertising/TV spend upon New Superb in particular.

You will have gathered from current media reports that ŠKODA is working at full speed to clarify irregularities concerning particular software used in Diesel engines.

Please be aware of one thing over all others: securing the trust of our customers is, and will remain, of paramount importance to us. We sincerely and deeply regret that we have abused your trust. We will take care of all your concerns as quickly as possible.

All affected vehicles are technically safe and roadworthy.  It goes without saying that we will take full responsibility and cover costs for the necessary rectification arrangements and measures.

But this process will take time – time for an analysis of the circumstances and time to initiate technical measures.

New vehicles from the Volkswagen Group with EU 6 Diesel engines currently available in the European Union comply with legal requirements and environmental standards.

I'm quite a big fan of the American statement "saying it don't make it so".

Just saying :notme:

Had a call today from ford asking me if I've been mis sold

Tdi

Haha

Looks like EA189 models here are those affected......

So trading in my EA189 diesel engined S2 for a petrol S3, and now seeing diesel prices rise above petrol prices again = Schadenfreude:dance:

I felt a certain empathy with Nick Francis, the The Sun on Sunday motoring correspondent, who wrote...

"Poor old VW haven't had a good week.

I'm not going to bang on about it but I will say this - they make great cars and I personally couldn't give a toss about their emissions.

They drive well, last for ever and look great".

Echoing my sentiments in respect to Škoda (except maybe for the ugly butt of the Mk.II Superb hatch  ).

I wonder when Skoda will start doing a plug-in hybrid version? Ideally something with about 30 miles of electric range.
