Auto dimming mirrors?

Featured Replies

How do you get on with yours?

Last night driving back down a dual carriageway I was being badly glared, I could see it seems to put a tint on the lights behind (unless that's my factory fit privacy glass) but the lights were glaring and no where near as effective as a traditional flip mirror.

I switched the mirror off a few few times but it had no effect on the light levels, is it working?

My Auto Dim mirror is Spot on.  Works very well.

I've been reading your thread on the Bi Xenons, wonder if it's related some way. Faulty light sensor.

Is the little green light on the mirror working? Mine works great. You may have accidentaly  switched the function off

Do you have anything on the rear screen; sunshade, dashcam, stickers?

My auto dimming mirror is not as effective when I have the rear sunshade in place (I only use it when parked up at work, or When the dog is in the back).

I would, however, gladly swap the auto dimming rear mirror for a manual one and have the side mirrors auto dimming. I still don't understand the logic of not making ALL the mirrors auto dimming.

The green light is always on, after finding it very glary I switched it off by the little button and it made no difference the glare and slight polorized look remained the same, that's what makes me wonder if its working.

Pretty sure my vRS was fine even through a heavy after market tint and my Freelander before that.

Do you find the side mirrors dazzle as much as the centre one?

I can cope with the side mirrors on car and bike, no prob, but the center one in the car gets right on my tits if somebodys behind with bright lights.

Wouldnt mind. I rarely even use the thing.

I've only had my Octacia sine July and the auto dimming rear mirror is brilliant and works almost unoticably, as I guess it should.. it doesn't work however if the sun blinds up but then it's enough to stop the dazzle on it's own.

Last night(early eve) I drove 20 plus miles with my mirror switched off, got used to the light levels.

Then switched it on and every car that came up behind nothing changed on my mirror, it stayed the same, there was no noticeable dimming the lighting/darkness of the glass remained the same as it did for the previous 20 miles.

Must be duff :(

Or the heavy after market window tint you mentioned earlier,

No this car has the manufactures standard privacy tint as it came from the factory.

My vRS had an aftermarket tint and still dimmed.

Ben,

No problem with internal or external mirrors on mine.

Are they meant to be used with Aviators on ! lol

Hope you can get both sorted to your satisfaction soon.

Just searched YouTube for testing auto dimming mirror on VW/Audi.....doh!

Thinks.... best I go take my dash cam away from mirror and try to cover the rear light sensor, if it works then, I will know my problem. The dash cam has a little screen possibly glowing enough to stop the mirror from sensing its dark??...don't you just love the interweb :)

Update later after testing.

Sorted!!!

Moved dashcam out from in behind the rear view mirror, placed my thumb over the rear sensor, flashed up the tourch into the front sensor..hey presto one dimming mirror!!

That saved an embarrising trip to the dealers, I won't do that again :)

What have you got attached to your headlights / fogs? lol

That is the next mystery but I do enjoy a bit of detective work, increases my knowledge base.

As soon as I saw the YouTube video on how to test the dimming mirror, I instantly thought dam the dashcam emits some light from the small rear facing screen straight into the small light sensor, which I did not know was there until the video clip :)!
