Yea, a lot quicker & yet when driven sensible it's more economical.

Made it a taxi, 1.6CR TDi, now mapped to 140bhp, EGR/DPF delete. Now worried about this whole emissions thing, 2012 Octavia

A remap of my october 2011 1.6 TDI. Before 102 HP 248Nm after 142 HP 299 Nm. EGR deleted

I still lacks the bottom end grunt I was used to from my 1.9 TDI Fabia Estate, remapped to 135 HP 310 Nm, but third gear overtakes shure take shorter than before.

I keep having fleeting thoughts of a remap... it's the quickest/easiest and most cost effective way of getting more power from a TDI.

If you have a remap then you don't need to worry and just ignore the letters etc. It's optional anyway and if they did it your remap will be overwritten.

Plus with a DPF delete there may be issues there. So drive it and enjoy it!

Asking out of curiousity, since I don't live in UK: What happens if you skip or fail MOT?

Does your license plate get on the Police's watchlist and do you get a warning letter, or is it only a problem if you get stopped by the police?

Here in Denmark, we get a letter of notice, and if the car hasn't passed MOT within the stated date, the license plate is void and gets on the police's list, so sooner or later they will drop by your address and take the license plates, or if they spot your car in traffic or parked, they will stop you and take the plates or remove them from the parked car.

I see no reason why they should treat failure to get the car castrated differently.

Way too strict rules...

How it happens in Latvia. It's your responsibility to remember about MOT. Nobody sends you any messages about that. If the MOT certificate has expired but the car is parked (or is being driven but not caught by police) then everything is fine. Police has rights to stop you and charge you for such irresponsible action.

For example, my brother was abroad while his cars MOT certificate expired. His car during the trip was parked. I don't see any reason why the licence plates should be removed. After the trip he got "one day pass" (permission to drive to MOT station. It's valid only one day; it's not free; you can get like 2 of them per year) and visited the MOT station.

Are you saying that police should remove the licence plates for cars than haven't visited Skoda dealer after receiving that letter? Have I understood you right?

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Our license plates are proof that you have valid third-party insurance and MOT. Other countries, i.e. Germany and Sweden use stickers on the license plate to show it instead.

A car which the owner doesn't doesn't take to MOT is most likely a polluting rust bucket with bad brakes, tires and lights, unsafe for the passengers and other road users, just not roadworthy.

I agree about MOT. Faulty brakes can kill someone.

But if you talk about software update at Skoda dealers then I don't see any point in that. I've heard that updating software might only remove cheating possibility that MIGHT NOT have been used here in Europe at all. So, basically it's the same as before. Might be better from the lawyers point of view, that's all.

Anyway, MOT is the inspection. If they do not find any issues then you are legal. No matter that if you car produces NO, CO or whatsoever maybe 1k times more then allowed. If they are unable to detect it then they have to say: "Goodbye, sir. See you next year."

If they make a law stating that failure to get the software update done is an MOT failure in its own right, then that's the law.

"I fought the law and the law won"

The failure to stop the flow of surplus population over the outer European borders fully proves that the politicians are completely disengaged from reality.

Only had it a few months so not much. Even though it only had 19K miles on the clock I ran some AR6400-d through a tank of fuel and it has made the engine smoother and more responsive which I was surprised at with the low mileage. Put a Pipercross panel filter in which gave a bit more pickup from low revs.

Next on the list is a H&R rear ARB and possibly a front too. Once the car has been in for the cheat software update then I will be getting a Shark map installed.
