My Citroen CX addiction takes another turn..

Featured Replies

Having collected my mates CX, I had to have one.

ebay was scoured, and a LHD 2.4i Prestige (lwb) was found in Brighton.

A flight down to collect, and it was picked up with steam pouring out and a non charging alternator.

the steam was solved by tightening the coolant tank cap, as it was loose.

The alternator proved more troublesome and led to a breakdown on the m25.

It arrived home on the back of a truck whilst we flew up.

the doors and wings are rotton but I have a full set of spares in the car

Anyway here are some pics!

Sadly, door bases are one of the rot areas on these cars.

I think you were in conversation with a mate of mine on Saturday whilst we were changing some lower ball joints and drop links on a Meriva.

we were going to come see the CX at oxford services but sadly you didn't make it that far!

Credit to you for taking this on as a project.  There's something appealing about these old Citroens despite the need for a constant requirement for TLC and patience.  Having said that, I've been looking at the C6 recently as I've got a hankering for one for some reason.

It must stem back to being 14, drunk on red wine, smoking a filterless Gauloises and being driven erratically down a French road in a CX estate with all the windows down by my French exchange partner's parents.  They had also been on the red wine.  Happy days........

Lovely cars. A friend had a CX GTI Turbo that was thoroughly entertaining, though I think all the hydraulics failed and killed the car in the end.

Oooft!estates are for winners! mine apparently has the estate rear end and wheelbase/rear doors

Great cars, remember years ago driving down through France overnight being overtaken at a great speed by a 6 wheel CX Est,

Turns out they built a few for the French newspapers to run papers across France overnight.

I used to have a BX GTi 16v as a company motor back in the day, unbelievable motor, and so quick it was unreal, Love CX's also, I had a GTi Turbo 2.5 and I really miss it with our potholes now.

My neighbour had one of these when I was a kid, cool cars until the Hydraulics went leaving it stuck in the road. Used to enjoy watching the back rise!

The CX Loadrunner - I don't know how fast they were, but they could cruise ton-up fully loaded.

In these post Graham harper days, you probably know more about "old Citroen" service in Glasgow than I do.

I had a BX 1.9D hatch and it was an amazing car except it kept going in the garage for faults. So it went in the end. My dad also had a BX1.9 DTR estate and I thought that was amazing. Never gave him any trouble but he got rid of it as well. But my Dad changes his cars like I change my pants! (Well not quite but you know what I mean)

Had and loved a BX and I have to say the CX safari was a massive car. Also good for filming horse racing :)

Got a bit more looked at on this at the weekend - key thing is solving the charging issue. Battery light comes on when you key on and goes off once started

Spare Alternator

Plenty of stuff in the way

Inlet off, still can't really see it

Got 1 pulley off, and could get to the 21mm back bolt. Unfortunatly I didnt have a 21mm spanner, and a socket and ratchet would not fit..

at this point I put it back together and will take it to a local alternator place tomorrow -they are apparently able to supply and fit for a reasonable price.
