Wrong size alloys possibly? ?

Featured Replies

Hi all...New to the forum.

I'm a new Skoda Superb owner. (2010 greenline saloon model) and not very knowledgeable on cars/wheels at all.

The car currently has 16" regular steel wheels on it but I have the opportunity to switch them over to a set of second hand original Skoda 16" alloy wheels.

The correct spec for my car is a rim of 7J x 16 x ET45 with a tyre size of 205/55/R16.

But these alloy wheels have a rim of 6.5J x 16H2 x ET50 but the same tyre size of 205/55/R16.

I do not fully understand the rim differences. If the tire sizes are the same then are these alloy wheels still compatible for my Skoda Superb?

Or will they be completely wrong for my car?

Hope you can help explain the difference, if there is one? , many thanks!

I'm not sure they will due to possible brake size conflicts. I'm not a specialist though and have not tried this so maybe someone with more experience will post here shortly....

Another option is to use the 'search' button top right of this page and write in a search topic e.g. Alloy wheel swap (or something.)

Tons of info on here....it's a good place to find this type of info. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the reply....

I'll keep searching for any possible answers, maybe they would work, but maybe it would be a disaster?

Anyway  having thought about it a bit more, its probably best that I stick with the spec wheel size.....ie 7J x 16 x ET45. I would love to know if they would fit though....I think from what I'm reading up that the 'offset' is the real issue here.

I might just leave these alloys until I find the right ones for the Skoda Superb...I thought the wheel size was the only thing that was important to fitting alloys, but there is a lot more to it, it seems!!! I know alot more before the day is out! :-)

Those Octavia wheels outer edge will sit 11mm further inwards towards the suspension than your current wheels, so without spacers to make up for the difference the car will look very odd. The inside is only 1mm difference, with the rest being made up by the narrower wheel

Thank you so much....this makes sense. Also, that is a great link you posted.

I've still loads to learn about it all but I think its best I forget about these particular alloys...

I don't want to ruin the look of the car....plus because its a Greenline model I think its best to try and obtain the Skoda 'Spectrum' alloys which sometimes come with these models and so are specifically suited for this car. I have never seen them for sale though so I thought something similar looking might have been ok.

Anyway, I'll stick with my regular wheels for now.  Great stuff, and thanks!

So many wheels to chose from on the internet.

I use superskoda.com for reference and information,i was boing to buy a set of wheels from them a while ago but a letter from the inland revenue  put stop to new wheels.

They have the Nevis 16 inch wheel (original skoda part) in usual alloy colour or anthracite (would be my choice, looks mean and fills the wheel arch).

If you can buy 5 wheels so you have a full size spare (if not already) full size spare wheel is the best and only extra I got for my car.

Good luck.

I might have a solution for you. I am about to change my wheels on my 2014 Greenline and my Spectrums will be available. They are spotlessly clean and are wearing 4 x Continental tyres. Drop me a message if you would like to discuss further.
