Octavia L&K 56 upgrade to Amundsen+

Featured Replies

Hi, I have looked through many of the posts on this great site, but I think n I need some specific help.

I have an Octavia L&K 56 plate, with a Stream MP3, MFSW, Maxidot , parking sensors, cruise and climate.

I am looking to upgrade to a Amundsen+ with built in Bluetooth, but I have seen several comments about compatibility between different ages of car and sat nav (BAP and DDP)?

ON the many Amundsen for sale, they mention

Part Number

Hardware number

Software number

Is there a definitive spec that I should be looking for or how do I know that its going to work with my car. For instance I have been told that the newer 2009-2012 ones won't work with my car, so do I have to wait for an older one to come up and how far back where the Amundsen+ models made?

Any help gratefully received.

It will work in your car but will not work with maxidot, climate, parking sensors or MFSW.

If you want to keep maxidot and mfsw then the Columbus is your only option but then to get parking sensors back you either need to upgrade the parking sensor module or then buy a Polar FIS+ that will also give you climate display.

Both stereos will need a new CAN gateway most likely given the age of your car.

Be aware when buying Amundsen+ as it comes in several flavours.

The PolarFIS+ is an awesome little box that does a whole load of stuff, but it's still the thick end of £200

There's a full-monty (DAB, BT, RVC input)here: ;)

Phil, Thanks for the response, although a little disappointed!

What model would have been the option for Sat Nav back in 2006?

I am most keen to get one with Bluetooth, which I don’t believe the Columbus has.

Is the alternative to go for and aftermarket Kenwood or other, are they likely to work with what I have?

Thanks

Hi,

I understand about the different flavours of Amundsen+, but disappointed that they don’t go back far enough to just plug and play, without buying/fitting extra items.

Thanks for the offer of your one, but I didn’t really want to spend that plus the extra for the Polar FIS.

The factory sat nav on a 2006 model is the Nexus, which is the same as the VW MFD2.

It's a very out dated model now, and doesn't display the climate controls, nor parking sensors. It doesn't even play MP3 files.

Phil, Thanks for the response, although a little disappointed!

RNS315/Amundsen+ was introduced around 2009, after the facelift. Part of the facelift was the introduction of the BAP protocol which is what RNS315 uses exclusively. There is no version of this unit that uses the older DDP protocol.

Columbus swings both ways, but doesn't have BT and DAB ones are not cheap either. (Think arm, leg and first-born)

To be fair, climate display is only an echo of what is 2 inches beneath the unit, and you will still get the beeping from PDC.

It's a bit like trying to add Free-view to tube TVs..........the technology is a generation apart and is beyond plug and play.
