Anyone added extra instruments?

Featured Replies

Been wondering whether to pimp my ride with some extra guages.

Thinking of adding a water temp., oil temp/pressure and maybe a vacuum guage.

Questions are.....................anyone done this and do you have pics/costs etc. Would this affect the ECU or warranty?

Why on earth woild you waste money doing this? Show us all when you have completed the new gauges etc and let us all know how much you have wasted.

Good luck

If you have a PID there is a water temperature option in the car info display.

Why vacum on a non turbo car?

Seems pointless as the PID tells you most things.

Thank you for your enthusiastic response. Clearly I don't have a PID,(why would I waste my money?) and anyway, it is my money to waste.

Don't imagine it would affect the Warranty. And if it did then, like all warranties, it would only invalidate the thing that you've touched (eg your ECU), so I guess you're not likely to have a real problem with that anyway!

I use the PIDs temp guage to let me know when my car is warmed up and can open up throttle a wee bit more (or turn the heating on when the engine is warmed up and not get a blast of cold air on a cold morning! :D ), so makes sense if you've not got the PID to get this. I can't imagine it's a tricky thing to get the guage working. Only thing is finding a place to install it. I know you can buy cheap casing from eBay, but wondered if lower driver's side A-Pillar would be more useful? Then just a case of disguising wiring - Hyphons is your go to guy, he has many a hidden wire in his Citigolow! :)

I think you mean me ;) lol

A positive outlook to other peoples thoughts, obviously. Useful and mature. Not. (:

To the OP, can you add the PID on to your car and see things that way?

Also some of the OBD readers show you such things if you take a look at those.

I dont find coolant temp a useful feature as such. The coolant gets up to temp quite quick, but the oil is the main one and that takes much longer anyway (:

My 2 cents (:

eBay is your friend  although it's more what I perceive to be a cheap VCDS, can't amend anything on the ECU, just check faults and clear them

You can buy an App (can't recall the name but I looked into it once for other reasons) where you can have an App on your phone and a OBD connected to the Plug in the car, it would then transfer a wifi signal to the phone, you'd pair the phone to the OBD's wifi and bingo you've got a readout of stuff to do with the car, however I gave up as the Citigo wasn't supported

carista is the app iirc (:

Ah didnt know the citigo wasnt supported.

Try torque, with a bluetooth elm327 obd tool ;)

I can't really recommend driving around with an OBD reader plugged in talking constantly with the CANBUS. From my job I can tell you some cars and/or readers do not like it and cause erratic behaviour (of the car).

It seems the best answer for the OP is just to get the PID.
