Confused On What Tyres To Choose? - Updated - bought Nokians

Featured Replies

Michelin PS3 or Goodyear F1A2.

I won't fit directional tyres to my vehicles anymore.  It removes too many options if you happen to get some odd wear patterns

Hi, if you are still considering which tyres to choose, try looking at Avon zz3 I had a full set on a mondeo st and they were faultless in both wet and dry conditions, road noise was very acceptable at high speeds, they made the car feel very planted, tyre wear in my opinion was on par with other premium makes also,

my mk1 vrs octavia due some new boots before the bad weather comes and I will be buying them again 100%,

Got tracking number on Monday 19th & still waiting for delivery :( even thou at checkout the delivery time said 24/72h, the tracking is still the same as Monday " parcel status Information transmitted, no shipment available now " location " Germany Hallerndorf " wtf!

I just ordered the Winter Nokian D4s this afternoon, Should get them in a week of so :)

ideally I wanted the Nokian All Seasons (there's are Winters that can be used in summer as opposed to the Michelins which do it the other way around), but they don't do my size yet :( Still I only do about 3,000 miles or so in the warm months with my little 4x4 so I might just leave them on all year round.

Nice ;) did you purchase them From Tyreleader?

No I use Sheldons in Manchester. They are usually competitive on price, but they also have changed several tyres on wheels for me free of charge, by which I mean I have turned up with a new wheel/wheels and haven't bought tyres from them at that time. Great service and super friendly. Great place if you want a cheap set of alloy wheels for your 'winters' too :)

I had my Nokian Weatherproofs fitted today, was going to wait, but a puncture on one of my tired Contis, forced my hand.

First impressions are very favourable, given that it was around 14 degrees today. Nothing adverse to report and grip seems improved somewhat.

I have a journey to Leeds and back Friday/ Saturday, so will see how things feel on the motorway.

I think the D4 will go on mine in a few weeks as it's not quite cold enough to justify it at the moment.

Might have to pick up some centres so they don't look ****e on steel.

Anyone know a good source for the black 5x112 VW centres

Just for info, I asked Nokian if it was advisable to run the Weatherproofs at higher inflation than summer tyres, as you would with winters.

They advised adding 0.2 bar to the recommended inflation pressures.

My tracking has been updated! Finally! hopefully should expect delivery this week with a bit of luck

Yep I looked at the Michelin CC tyres when mine needed replacing but, figured I've lived through 31 winters driving more sensible.

So I brought the CSC5'S as I know & trust them, I get near 8k outta them which is about right considering my driving style & grip given.

I have read on threads on here about people changing there tyres & having 4 wheel alignment done but if you have lane assist it needs recalibrating? now is this true or those that have lane assist, after you have changed your tyres & had 4 wheel alignment done, is your lane assist still working perfectly as before?

looks like I found the answer in post 15 & 20

I didn't have alignment done when I had my tyres fitted, as looking at the contis that came off, there was no obvious sign of uneven wear, though, they were pretty much used up.

My lane assist still works fine with the weatherproofs on.

Did a few hundred miles at the weekend with them and nothing adverse to report. Not noisy, grip is much better in the damp than the contis ever were, even in mild temps. The traction control light is having a good rest at the moment! Lol

PS3's look cheaper from Monday onwards, Costco have a £50 discount for 4 tyres at once.

Nokian's weatherproof x 4 fitted today with 4 wheel alignment, Lane assist still works perfectly fine as it was before the tyres got changed & straight away when driving home on the motorway, I noticed the Nokian's are so much more quieter compared to the Conti's, It was raining hard but the ride feels so much more smoother & they seem to be very good in the wet, the traction control light did not come on once  & these were just fitted so did a 50-60 mile drive home with them on...

Thanks for the heads-up as regards Nokian tyres, so far so good :)

Just an update on my Nokian Weatherproofs, which may be of use to some. I hit a pothole on Sunday and one of my new Weatherproofs was ruined by virtue of having a hole punched in its sidewall by the pothole. I had been having trouble tracking down a replacement from the usual sources, but today found a site nordiccartyres.com where you order direct from Nokian. I ordered this morning and am told it will be with me tomorrow. They are based in Scotland and the prices are pretty decent. Very handy if you come unstuck, like I did.

Well Nordic were true to their word, new tyre arrived first thing this morning, just as they promised. Not bad for free delivery! :)

That's where I got mine from (fitted too).  They're the UK distributor for Nokian (including Ag and Forestry).  As it was a new tyre there were supply issues in some sizes e.g. only 2 sets of 4 came through in my allroad size prior to Christmas.  Helpful folk there.  Gordon's your man...

Almost as cheap as the normal online options (if not cheaper now), but you also have proper and ultimate UK support if needed.

Weatherproof SUV (what I had fitted) manufactured this year has Aramid in the sidewalls for increased resistance to pothole damage etc.
