Hello Octy III'rs

Featured Replies

I've been here a while, thanks to Fabias and lastly my current Fabia vRS mk1

But I have the urge to chase the new shape, but it MUST be a petrol vRS (manual 6sp fine), diesel is out though must ideally be petrol.

Hard to decide though blue or black! I am thinking long term though, and its hard to think of getting bored of either, but on face value get the feeling the blue may offer more long term appeal (as its use in the SE models etc, its a great shade).

A black has come up at very decent dealer price, a little high miles though and some decent round trip from me so I can't just pop and see it.

Hard to decide whether to go for a look ( its not close) or wait for the blue ??? Help !

Also the extreme low numbers of petrols makes me wonder how long I'd be waiting for an early facelift petrol from 13>+ - with anywhere from 30-40k miles on for a really decent price ?

Wisebuyers does suggest its not unreasonable to be looking at £15K at a dealer for a 2013 ish model ! (less for private)

I was going to buy a '64 plate black edition for £15k, which, to be fair I really liked.

But then I made the mistake of driving the vRS  :notme:

If I'd chosen a colour, I'd have gone Rallye Green.  Race Blue's smart and suits the Octy well, but it's been done to death now IMO.

If colour's important to you, between the two, I'd go with black.  Bugger to keep clean over the blue, but who cares.

Hmm, might still be worth a look then. thanks for the support.

Difficult though as the blue really does have that "piercing" look about it ( guess why so many folk make such a fuss of blue eyes eh!)

There really isn't anything else about at that rate its going for.
Correction, there isn't anything about, so if I want a petrol and I want it now for that kind of price, that would have to be it.

My fabia vrs (had from new) however is so so reliable. I'm sure it would still go for miles yet if I was more patient about it. Actually to be honest I'm not really of a mind to get rid of it for the pittance they command now.

Awkward one chaps, I'm awaiting delivery of my brand new tsi vrs, imo the black just doesn't seem right, but as gaz says the rallye green is pretty neat but I didn't have the kahunas to go for it and stuck with the race blue SWMBO likes the white but every man and his dog has a white car now ;p

I owned a Mk1 Octavia VRS for 11 years up until April this year, then bought a brand new Race blue TSI Octavia III VRS hatch

Brilliant car and no regrets  .

Get a sprint yellow one while you still can.

I don't think you'd regret black - I went for that colour (again) and imo it looks great with the grey wheels, sunset glass and black grille surround. I think the black is pearlescent whereas the blue is metallic? And one other observation - I reckon you get a different kind of attention in the race blue than in the black - although interesting to hear from other on that point!

In what way do you mean a different kind of attention?

Couldn't do yellow again. Time for a change, blue, black, or something different.

Not white though I think ( a bit too basic and appliance for me, I know some love it as it gives a "new" feeling everytime you look at it). Not that chocolate (or whatever) type of colour.

I want just a solid, really long term colour that will last, black will do I just was a bit mixed about whether I should wait around for blue

Meteor Grey?

In my opinion you lose a lot of the detail on the black, on the front bumper especially. It does look stealth but I just prefer the visual interest of seeing the grill, and patterns on the front against a colour like blue of green etc. I ordered blue because, although it's a cliche colour it's still has the balance of standing out without being too loud.

Well its done now ! I figured I'd be waiting forever for a blue petrol at that money ( even private, I've seen people trying to sell at very strong prices and taking a long time to come down to eventually sell around the £15k mark).

...and I bought this 2014 car quite a bit less than that !

So I'm happy with that and soon to join the petrol vRS fold ! (Already with and staying with the diesel fabia 1 vRS for now too!)

In person I liked the colour far more than the pics, it does grow on you, I like the blue but actually kind of veered towards the black, for me its just mean petrol vRS to a tee......

That sound even at low speed :D and I have a bike with sports exhaust so know how to appreciate a good engine note, its just completely different from the diesel vRS (not slow by any means either, I wasn't really shocked by the performance of the petrol on the test to be honest - its not like its twice as fast as my fabia or anything - although there was a fair bit of traffic so hard to give it some beans).

Personal opinion, but i really don't like the black Mk3 vRS. Its a bit too stealthy. For instance, the front bumper doesn't stand out as any different to the rest of the Octavia range, like it does on the lighter coloured cars.

When i test drove a vRS, they had a black vRS next to a black special edition, and the difference was minimal.

The funny thing is, i have a history of black cars (my wifes current car, and my previous car are both black).

Fair play, I can get where you are coming from, and trust me if I was paying full price for a new one or full leasing costs, I'd want to be fully noticed in it too ! I'd probably spec out a blue or something else, perhaps. But I'm very happy for now with black.

To be honest it was a cheap option for a new vRS for me as there honestly wouldn't be much else that would have really been in my current interest for price range, so it was pretty much bang on for me. Beggars being choosers, but actually it suites me pretty well and chose me even if I didn't choose it so to speak !

I actually am growing on the understated look, its a bit stealth.

( For instance having seen the brand new wheels on the vRS, are a bit too much like shouting in CAPS for me personally lol, I'm very happy with the early wheels).

I agree, there is less definition around the new style shape around the badge, but could always bring that out in future with film or something.

But I won't bother doing anything, I just got it to run for now, and appreciating driving the car for what it is.

To be honest I was getting a bit tired of the over the top colour scheme of my current car ( and all the fiddling about you can do with them), but I can still use that for a bit of novelty in future if I want to stand out!

Nice 1 Post some pics up :) I'm sure you will be modding in no time ;)

Got the car ! She's a beaut.

Not sure about the mapping, its a lot of car for the moment and for what if does for me is pretty good.

Although maybe in the future might not rule a Golf R style remap if possible out the box! But the insurance is quite favourable at the moment, not in any rush to mess about with that as its so much easier to insure the car "as is".

Although could be useful for occasional map for "offroad" use e.g. quarter mile days out if I ever got around to such events like RWYB in the octy for a bit of extra poke!

(not really bothered about it for everyday use, 220 hp is fine).

However unlike the Fabia, which for me was lacking in the seating, suspension and styling (front splitter), which became apparent over time,

I reckon the Octy is pretty well specced out for me on the points I didn't like on the Fabia originally. There currently is nothing I dislike about the car so why change it.
