Dont stay new long do they......

Featured Replies

Just noticed my 3 week/1300 mile old Carbon Grey GTD has four small but quite noticeable down to primer stone chips on the drivers rear arch....from something flicking up whilst on the move no doubt.

Normally happens to the bonnet or bumper first but as is life.

Now the moral dilemma...its a company car so touch up stick or not is the question ;-)

One things for certain VAG metallic paint is both quite soft and thin....kind of wish I had a white one now!

Or a silver one ;-)

Could be worse... Could be a small ding from an inconsiderate so-and-so parked next to you at a supermarket car park not being careful as they open the door.

Also worried about cyclists and motorcyclists that ride too close to the car :-s

The paint as actually pretty hard which is why it chips so easily. My white VRS has a few chips and they show grey underneath so solid colours are no better.

At least I can wash it without marking it unlike my wife's mx5 which marrs so easily due to the super soft Mazda paint

Fair shout.

I suffer terribly from that new car "wrap it in cotton wool" complex.....as time goes on and the inevitable things happen to it, it subsides :-)

In a way wish Id kept my previous well used and abused 64 plate one as was far less worried about it haha

Ha yeah I'm still like it needs to be wrapped but I have it a year [emoji23]

Primer grey FTW then!

I bet they put white primer under grey just to be annoying.

If its a company car I wouldn't bother. The leases expect reasonable wear and tear. Your lease manager won't give a monkeys. Unless you actually prang it, its not worth mentioning or wasting your own money on.

Agreed just a shame as its practically brand new and v nice...but doing 25/30k per year for 4 years its gonna get its share....I am also less bothered than I would have been if Id bought it for sure.

That's just how I felt when I got my first company car. I was so proud and even actually waxed it. Four years on I'm filling it with garden waste without a care in the world.

I had a black 64 reg GTD as a loaner prior to it, done 25k miles...good nick but had already had its fair share of knocks which i could have kept for another 3 years.....but I was allowed to order a new one and that was gonna have nav, winter pack and KESSY too....I couldnt not :-)

I've given up. A bird through the lower grill, resulted in a chip whet its head or beak hit the paint. Along with multiple stone chips, topped off by a mate resting his bum on the leading edge of the bonnet has 'spoilt' it, however most people simply see a shiny car going past them. I will have it sorted again in a year or so when it has more damage, and it will still look great. It's mine and I always look after my cars.

If you're very good with a touch up and a cocktail stick, I'd say sort them out before they rust.

There are limits to what's acceptable and pebble dash doesn't work.

Then again you could not bother and just get it cleaned up before you hand it back,
