2.0 PD140 155K on second hand Caddy, any tips?

Featured Replies

My brother is looking at 59 plate VW Caddy (pre-fl) with the 2.0 PD140 engine and a manual six speed gearbox, it's done 115K miles.  As far as I'm aware this is quite a solid engine and I'm thinking for this mileage it may need money set aside for a new turbo, DMF and timing belt depending on what work it's had done (nothing is mentioned in the advert bar a full service history).  Unfortunately it's some distance away so I can't easily pop over and have a look but I'm wondering if there's anything to look out for and any particular advice for this model?

Edit - I mucked up the threat title, its' 115K rather than 155K and I can't seem to change it :(

Thanks,

John

DMF usually goes around 100k if its similar to the 1.9pd.. So that might be playing up by now if it hasnt already been done.

Generally with vans, its the history and overall condition. Miles arent too much of a worry as theyre designed to rack em up.

The 2.0 TDI 140 PD had some problems early on, mostly oil pump drive failure and fuel injectors. The problem engine was code BKP, Google VW BKP engine and it will detail the problems. Hopefully being a 59 plate model it will be a newer model engine than BKP but worth checking.

Having said that I had a BKP engine VW from new and covered 146k in it. The only time it let me down was when the fuel pump failed.

Van was sold already unfortunately, it seemed a little cheap to me for what it was but won't get to see it now anyway.
