Spare wheel compatibility vRS Mk2 to Mk3

Featured Replies

Hi, placed an order yesterday for a new vRS estate.

I am trading in my 60 Reg Mk2 vRS hatch.

Whilst specing the options the dealer asked if I would like a spare wheel. I said that I would just take it from my current car and swap out the puncture kit when I come to collect the new car.

It has just dawned on me that the spare from the mk2 may not fit the Mk3!

The spare in my current car is a 205/55/16 - I am not so sure that this will fit the new vRS but can someone please confirm?

I think you have to have a 17" minimum in-order to fit over the calipers/brakes on the Mk3

I'm sure someone will confirm but I'm sure I've read that in other threads

Yeah minimum 17"

Thanks guys, suspected as much. Will give the dealer a ring tomorrow to see if I can add it on to the order.

The steel spare wheel that the dealer will supply, should be a 18" skinny wheel

I made a similar enquiry myself and was advised that 17" was the minimum.

Luckily I still have the full size alloy from my previous vRS, although apparently the jack has changed (improved?) between the Mk2 and Mk3.

I ordered the foam, tools etc from my local dealer for £41.00 and will be selling the unused jack, foam etc. from the Mk2.

The jack has changed because the jacking points are different
