How much should I expect to pay for these jobs to be done?

Featured Replies

Had my car's pre-MOT check done the other day, there are a few things that need sorting. There are a couple of others which aren't advisories/fails that I'd like to get done with it at the same time and as the garage only quoted me for fixing the advisories/fails I'm wondering what else to get done, so just wondering if someone can give me an idea of how much each of the following jobs may cost (parts + labour)? There are more but I can't think what they are right now. I know different garages vary so just want an approximate figure for each - that way I can decide whether I can afford to ask them to do it immediately or wait a month or two.

1. Replacement of 4 shock absorbers (with base model parts, not performance)

2. Replacement of the wire connecting the reversing lights to the reversing light switch

3. Oil change with new sump plug fitted.

Also, the biting point on my clutch is VERY high - there's barely any difference between the biting point and it being fully engaged (and has been for the 6 months I've had it). Does this mean that my clutch is on its way out? My car simply isn't worth enough to justify paying for a new clutch, but as I'll be paying a fair bit to get it through the MOT, I don't want to pay out and then have the clutch go a month later - not that you can tell exactly when it'll go, obviously.

Cheers guys

Yes, it's on its last legs.
