Amundsen SD cards

Featured Replies

On my new car it has Amundsen but apparently no SD

I just wondered, has anyone used SD other than the OEM one in the car for NAV?

Thanks in advance

As far as every one on this board say, you need the OEM card. Call your dealer and explain that yours is missing.

He should get you one. He probably just forgot to give you one.

I have the original Admunsen (2013 car) but I tried to "clone" my card onto a number of other cards at the lowest level I could (linux DD) but it still didn't work.

Must be some copy protection built in to recognise a "skoda" card - I gave up looking at it after that.

It seems the manufacturer has got a custom SD card with specific size and geometry (of course I'm referring to sectors and nodes of the filesystem on the SD card). I tried to make a safe copy of mine with a larger card and low level copy (exactly dd), without success.

And my dealer, too, forgot to provide SD with the Amundsen. They said they removed it to prevent steals.

The card must be OEM, it contains custom firmware in protected memory with a certificate which the headunit uses to decrypt the data. Skoda are actually using SD (Secure Digital) for its intended purpose of securing the data on its cards. Without the certificate then the Amundsen cannot read the data.

The whole point is that the copyright data is protected and there is nothing available that can write to the protected area on another card, assuming it even has the required memory area.

I thought their instructions included downloading latest updates to card, so that comes as bit of a surprise.

Guy I spoke to at the dealer said they hadn't got it though he wasn't the main salesperson. I think I'll check when going to collect the car as he may not know everything.

It is a bit odd to spec a car out as saying has satnav but without the disk to be able to use it! So maybe if I'm lucky this will be clarified.

You should have been given the right SD card when you picked the car up. The Sat Nav will not work without an OEM card from Skoda.

Make sure they give it to you. You will fall off your perch if I told you how much a dealer would charge for a replacement.

I've not met a dealer yet who is able/willing to update the card with the latest maps despite what Skoda HQ say so you will have to do this yourself when new maps become available.

Just to be clear, when you upgrade the nav database you have to copy the update to an ORIGINAL card. The data area of the card is just that - you can do what you want with it. The only special thing is the way in which the card itself is protected in its firmware which means that you must use an original SD card for it to be accepted by the head unit.

I'm pretty sure now it must be working, I think I misunderstood a test drive comment (which I think was just that it wasn't in the car for the test when I hadn't technically bought yet) so happy days.
