My new Fabia wipers have packed up!

Featured Replies

Hi, Just bought my first Skoda and the front wipers/washers have promptly stopped working. All that happens now is that when you pull the stalk to wash the front screen, the REAR wiper opperates! I have checked all the fuses and they are all fine. Can't hear any relays clicking? Seems like a wiring problem? Anyone have any thoughts. Thanks, Chris

did you check fuse 15 - washer pump

Yes, have checked and even substituted fuses that relate to wipers.

Anyone have any new ideas??

Bonnet not fully shut/faulty bonnet switch? If you've central locking the lights should flash when you lock the car, they won't if the bonnet is open.

This does sound like the washer pump fuse though... Are you sure the fuse(s) you changed are OK, they might look it to the eyes but actually are duff... Always test with multimeter on continuity setting...

Thanks, will try both things tomorrow.

Cheers, Chris

I thought the bonnet not being shut properly only stops the intermittent settings on the front wipers?

Yes, i have a suggestion, if it's a new car presumably bought from a Skoda dealer then take it back, get them to sort it, that's what warranties are for!

Although don't drive it there in this weather if the wipers aren't working!

True - but wipers may be needed to get there safely!

IMHO that's what the AA/RAC/etc cover is for ;)

Actually warranties cover against defects in materials and workmanship. If the fuse has blown due to the washers being frozen then technically it won't be covered, though I am sure that a dealer would do it free of charge (at their expense) in the name of customer good will.

If the fuse had blown due to a fault in the wiring or electrical consumer then it would be covered as part of the repair of the fault.

As it is the fuse has performed its function 100%, therefore there could have been nothing wrong with it.

If it's a new car, phone the dealers and get them to recover it back and fix it!

IMHO dealers get off far to easily generally :)

Did the wipers get turned on with them frozen to the screen?

I have the same issue! Have checked the fuses etc. I think I did try them when they were frozen??? What are the implications of this? Thanks for all help!!! Christmas day and i can't drive :(

It is usually just the fuse (as it's deliberately the weak link to prevent damage). Did you try swapping another fuse for the wiper one to see if that fixed it? :D

Chris

broken wipers add character to a car :D

Def the fuse, 10amp, happened on mine a few times!;)
