I have a failing door lock mechanism and I'm after a bit of help as to DIY fixing it...Is there any guides on here? I have tried youtube with no luck.

Seems as though there should be a bunch of bolts you just undo but...

 

I think someone has had it off before and riveted it back together. 

Later mk1s are rivetted from factory, unfortunately.

If the metal carrier panel is riveted on you will just need to drill them out its very easy, then either borrow a rivet gun when you come to put it back on or better would be to bolt it back on incase you need to do the lock mech again. then wind the window up until you can see the two bolts that hold the glass in place (may have to remove two inch ish black rubber grommets to see through) then unbolt those and the glass will be free to pop out (at a slight angle back end first is best way. Then you can get to the door lock mech. The £20 ish ebay replacement mechs work well.

Yes for for the most part;

Once the carrier off and you have marked the cable/removed it then its just a matter of two spine bolts holding the lock on.

 

If it is riveted your need the proper rivets from dealer (they are huge!) and a lazy tong riveter (i got mine from toolstation)

 

doing both my rears soon (again , yay!)

 I don't suppose you know what size bolts to order?

 

The rivets are part number N91078801

 

 

There are ten of them in each front door.

A god tip - You will find it's very hard to unplug from the socket at the door lock end. I always cut the wires on the cabin of the door carrier plate and use a mechanical connector when re-fitting, you will find it much easier and quicker.

Excellent tip - I must have wasted an hour or more plus grazed knuckles trying to undo the thing.

I need to replace my nearside rear lock this  week so this is all going to come in handy.  I'm still trying to source a replacement lock though.

 

Looking through the forum and elsewhere online I've found the part number: 3B2837015AM.  Although, that does appear to be a front nearside lock.  Does anyone know if the front and rear locks would be the same?

It will be brand new, but a pattern part (aka not made by VW,Audi,Skoda) .

I have already fitted one that wasnt the exact same part no, and the anti-hijack doesnt work properly with it.

Think i got the part No. above from SkodaParts, by ringing up and providing my Reg.

On the ebay add you just bought from, it says the following:

 

Manufacturer part no: 3B4839015AM

Reference OE/OEM Number: 3B4839015AG, 6QD839015B, 6Y0839015A

 

Does that mean its suitable for all 4?!

Putting this into eBay though it states the locks are for mk2 fabias.

Looks as though I've ordered the wrong one now anyway. Guess I'll find out when I dismantle the door.

Many parts will be common to both Mk1 and Mk2 Fabia, I should think.

It will probably fit all fine but tip from me - before you rivet it all back up, use the lock button on the drivers door and see if it stays down. Might also be worth taking it for a quick run (aka over 10mph) to make sure the anti-hijack is working properly.

 

As above mine works fine aka lock/unlocks from the fob but the lock drops and jumps back up when anti-hijack tries to lock it.
