Dashcam recording?

Featured Replies

^^ this.

The 'I don't like being filmed at work' is silly, the majority of people are likely are filmed at work, I assume you guys who are work men of delivery drivers won't work or deliver to any private house with CCTV or a business without going round checking for any kinda of cameras? The previous couple of MOT stations have a MOT viewing gallery by using a camera in monitor too! Aside from anything else, what are you going to see from a dash cam? Unless you have a see through bonnet very little.

As I said, nothing to hide then no reason to have a issue IMO.

On the flip side if your doing your job correctly in a professional manner why would a dashcam recording the cars movements be a problem, you feel the need to remove the supply?

When I was on the tools I used to drive my customers cars the same as I drove my own car.  In many cases this was a fair bit quicker than what the customers drove.  I often took my customers on road tests and they were surprised how well their cars could go.

I'm not sure why I should be vilified or punished for driving as I normally would & within the design parameters of the vehicle.

OTOH, all our workshops were open and I had no issues with the customer standing a safe distance away & having a chat (about there car or whatever) while I worked.  I could never understand "closed" shops where the customer couldn't observe their pride and joy being repaired.

edit:  I wouldn't like to be recorded as I do have a potty-mouth and I release frustration verbally (which is better than flinging a spanner across the room).

Just a thought but it might be a security issue for some.  Where I work we have an internal directory with photographs.  Quite a few of our people don't have an image on the directory because they have family in the SAS or Commandos or there is some form of legal issue or an issue regarding there security in there country of origin.

I think people have a right to privacy and there's no guarantee the video won't be posted publicly.

Its more of a safety concern in my job. People like to think they can do things themself.. Which should be attempted when gas is involved. Just one of the reasons why i wouldnt want them videoing.

Edit above haha.

My camera's only work when the engine is running,i understand about not wanting to be filmed working but if they are driving the car within the law on the roadtest then why disconnect/unplug it? id be more suspicious of them if the camera had been disconnected for the roadtest,if its working & they are filmed driving the car correctly on the roadtest then there is no problem.

Once a customer asked me to test their vehicle as there was a problem at said speed (illegal) no where local to take it so I used a road, informed them there was no problem and serviced vehicle, came back to bite me on ass as I was reported to boss who thankfully took up my side as well as police.

When i used to work for a honda main dealer i had a service to do on a prelude vti & the owner had reported a vibration at 90mph+,i did the service but informed the service manager that i would not be driving it at those speeds on a the public roads in our area so he would have to take it out,he refused as well,im not getting points or worse having/causing a accident because a customer wants me to drive their car like that.

That ls what jack wishes he said i think haha.

Something to note would be if you post footage of the inside of their workshop on Youtube and 2 weeks later the workshop gets broken into and the criminal says I knew exactly what I was after, I saw it on this video, where would you stand? Probably not going to happen but you never know.

Many moons ago when I was an apprentice in a multi franchised main dealers, the policy on such things was that the customer could drive the vehicle with the mechanic in passenger seat but only if the mechanic was happy to do it, generally the service manager would be that person to save time and he did know his stuff. I thought that was a fair enough way to put it. No roads with NSL within 90 minutes of the place so it was one of those things that would always come up unfortunately.

I can understand that, and it would be comparable to someone standing over a mechanics shoulder with a phone recording them which isnt really what the issue is. There would be very little visible from a dash cam aside from the bonnet open.

I could understand this if it was somewhere top secret, like millbrook testing ground or something. I cant imagine a thief to go to the extent of booking their car in various garages, paying for a service just to scope them out, likewise I cant see them searching youtube for videos about test drives for the same reason. They'd walk to the garage and walk round it themselves :D

The bonnet might not be open all the time.. It might be recording somebody else working on another car.

Less hassle to just disconnect it.

I'm struggling to thing of a position you could park the car and really see what someone else is doing close enough to see properly, you'd not have the camera close enough to see whats going on. Maybe if you flipped the car on top of another while a work mate was working on it? But then I think the camera would be the least of your worries :D In all seriousness, having seen a clip of my mates camera after he went to the garage, all you can see is people wondering about, you can see they're near a car or doing something to the car but no detail at all, and at the end of the day, if they have nothing to hide then there's nothing to worry about.

That ls what jack wishes he said i think haha.

And what I've said ever sinc
