Alright lads,

Basically, my friend used to have a mk1 golf, and he upgraded the heater controls to that of a transporter or a passat (can't quite remember which) and I really like that look.

I was just wondering, is it possible to upgrade the entire unit, or just the twisty Controls themselves to either the facelift versions or even any other VAG ones?

Are they a straight swap?

If you are talking about the digital "climatronic" it has been done but it is very difficult and not really worth the effort

UPDATE:

 

Just bought a set of the chrome switches, for £5, it's rude not to!

How do you get the knobs off?  I’ve pulled and pulled with a set of grips on my Mk2 and they absolutely will not come off...

Standard are far nice imo. Who has bright chrome heater controls?!
