RIP Occty, Engine sawp advice

Featured Replies

Hi all!

Recently my MK1 TDI has been having a bit of a paddy, gearbox, clutch and now head gasket. She's finished me off now and i'm going to have to put her at rest.

I'm buying another octavia while I fix her up as and when i can/afford to. So i'm looking to get a donor car for an engine then break the rest for a bit of funding.

Just wondering what you would all advise, I was thinking a PD110 with FMIC, uprated turbo, uprated clutch and a remap. but as it's going to be a big job i want to make sure I make the right choice, she currently has a (dead) ALH 90.

Thanks in advance!

The 110 (and 90) aren't PD engines - they are an older family.
The only PD engines in a Mk1 are the PD130 as seen in the last of the Elegance, L&K and Ambiente SE.

Depends what you want from it. If you're just after a quick, reliable, daily hack without spending a lot of money, I'd go with a standard PD130.

Ah i see, I was aware the 90 isn't a PD but didn't realiset the 110 wasn't either! I would like to put a bigger turbo, FMIC, remap, launch control etc on, i've not decided the budget yet but got another 110 as a run about for now while i fix this one up. so theres no pressure, just as and when i can afford it. My question is which engine is the most reliable and can safely get 180-200 and handle it. I know the 150 has had issues with head bolts stretching at 200 and the same with the 130.

If you want to go for big gains, then the PD130 is the better choice - there's far more parts and knowledge available for that than the 110 which was never really a popular tuner's choice.
