21st Running of Sunseeker Rally

Featured Replies

Plans for Rallye Sunseeker's 21st birthday celebrations at the end of February are taking shape and a large number of former winners of the event have been in touch with the organisers to indicate their attendance.

Amongst the guests should be David Llewellin (1985) and Malcolm Wilson (1987) who both went on to be British Rally Champions, and they are due to be joined by three-times winner Trevor Smith (1989/91/92), David Gillanders (1994/95) and the last Sunseeker victor in a two-wheel drive car, Colin Short (1986).

The only driver to have won the event on four separate occasions, Marcus Dodd (1999/2000/01/03), is likely to be included in the 2006 entry list as he bids to increase his tally of victories still further, while it is anticipated that Roger Duckworth (1998/2004) will also be taking the start in Bournemouth once again.

Those from whom the organisers have yet to hear include Pete Doughty (1988), Mika Sohlberg (1990), Stephen Finlay (1993), Chris Mellors (1996) & Raymond Munro (1997).

The outline schedule for the 21st Birthday Celebrations include :

Thursday 23rd February : Gala Charity Dinner at the Bournemouth Marriott Highcliff Hotel (Rally HQ) from 19.30 hours.

Friday 24th February : Attendance at Scrutiny, Interviews, Autographs etc from 12.00 hours.

Friday 24th February : Parade of past-winners through the Super Special Stage in the heart of Bournemouth from 16.15 hours.

Saturday 25th February : Parade of past-winners through the major Spectator Stage at Somerley Park from 12.00 hours.

Saturday 25th February : Awards Ceremony, Bournemouth Marriott Highcliff Hotel from 22.00 hours.
