Forcing the odometer forward?

Featured Replies

Hi all!

If I switch the dashboard including the odometer on a Roomster 1.4 -07, will the dashboard display the right number of kilometers direct from the ECU?

Im swapping and the donor vehicle have gone less than 1/3 of the distance of my car. (potential legal problem if it displays to few km).
If it doesn't, does anybody know how to force the odometer forward?

Cheers

Simply no. The mileage of the odometer will show the mileage that the 2nd hand odometer has done. You can pay one of the many mileage correction people to come and change the mileage.

Ok, there is a problem here in Sweden though, "mileage correction people" do not exist. I might get Skoda Sweden to perform the action, but that is going to cost a lot. There is no way of doing it myself?

There must be some people with the tools to do it.

When Eddie-NL on here installed my maxidot clocks he was able to change the mileage on the second hand clocks to match my existing ones.

Your Skoda dealer cannot change the mileage forwards on a 2nd hand odometer. On a brand new odometer your Skoda dealer can change the mileage forwards but only once and it has to have travelled less than 100 km.

So can I do it myself in any way?

Not that I know off. Also remember that the immobiliser is in the odometer so your keys will need coding. Also a second hand odometer may need coding to the vehicle.

Personally all I'd do is type (shows my age!) a statement giving the old odometer reading , with photo if at all possible, and do the same with the replacement.

Attach this with service documentation and if you use a dealer, lodge a copy with them to scan onto your service records.

The above should cover any legal issues in the future.

It also gets over the thorny issue of tampering with odometer readings.

I don't think it's legal is it? We had to have an odo replaced on a Nissan and the dealer said that they weren't allowed to set the mileage on the new one (it had done 3.5k miles). There was a section in front of the service book to fill in the previous mileage.

It's legal to change the mileage. It's illegal to sell a vehicle if knowingly the mileage is more and you fail to inform the new owner or prospective buyer.
